Thanks Jean... Apart from shooting at a different time of the day with the lighting for 1, the sun on the tower and not the gun barrel... but that wasn't an option...

Actually... Hatch is probably more accurate, rather than door... it's forward tube 3 :D.... Hey... I've been nominated for an award... it's a first :lol:

Why is it that the weeks where the theme sounds simple are always the hardest?

It's such a shame about the lighting on the barrel in number 1 because it's got the potential to be brilliant.
I do like no.2 though . . . crowbar or not. Lots to look at and the B&W treatment suits it well. Just spent the last 5 minutes deciphering the writing on the front of it.

Think that would have worked much better, as we know the theme its pretty easy to guess what your shooting but to an outsider I think they may struggle to see it.

Nice idea and on theme just think it could have been a cracker if executed as above.
 
.....but I'm a giiiirl and I like it too :) ..... I think with the first one if the gun had been darker in colour it would have been easier to get right...funny thing is we have all been dying for the sun to show it's face and when it does it's a PITA! :lol:
 
agree on the first that it might have been nicer to see the gun focused instead of the background.. the second suits B+W and has lots of interest.. went down a submarine in san francisco.. god only knows how they coped cooped up in that confined space, anway thats what it reminded me of the torpedo thingymabobs on that! ;)

Thanks Michelle... I'll probably get back there one day... and maybe get another shot (:D) at it. I know what you mean about the confined space... cramped things aren't they...
 
You already know the issue with number 1 John but there was nothing you could do about the sun. Would work well if the barrel was in focus.

Number two is a good image and the black and white works well. I would never have guessed what it was though. Good job you explained it :lol:

No.1 doesn't work for me as it is now but I can see the potential. No.2 is much better - I like the shapes and patterns, and your B&W processing suits it very well. :thumbs:

Thanks for the explanation of the moon shot. Sounds like an incredibly large piece of work, but the final results are worth it. A cracking shot.

Quad: Gah! It's been a long long time since I saw a D4.Have to say that 1st shot is a corker. Lovely DoF and well composed. Attention take to the presentation. Very very good...

Shoot: You can tell you were struggling... Funny how when a theme doesn't jump at you it's hard to even get a reasonable photo you're happy with. I do like the torpedo door though. Nice and symettrical and the B&W works well.

I've got several sets of dice lurking around... a D4 just seemed to fit quad so well :D...
 
well.. another week where inspiration didn't... In the end... I was getting lunch and this idea struck me...

You have superb taste in chocolate John, they're my absolute favourites! :thumbs:

All the elements are there in this one.
Great definition in contrast and textures in the egg box and the repeating pattern has a nice abstract feel.
The bright red egg stands out brilliantly against the box too.

I think I would have preferred the egg to be rotated so that the label was facing front . . . but then again it looks a bit more random and natural as it is . . . I'm not quite sure on that one :thinking:

A good take on another uninspiring theme though.
 
Nice - nice DoF and nice and sharp where it needs to be. I agree with Sarah in that just rotating it round so it was more of an 'advertisement' would have worked... but it's good as it is :thumbs:
 
I kind of like your first shot for shoot, I can see what you were trying. It's a shame you had such a low shutter speed for the second introducing a little movement to it.

Nice idea for single but would have prefered the box to be straight and a slightly lower angle with more of the label showing if you get my drift.

Thanks very much Sarah... As the chocolate goes they are very very good :D. As for the picture, the orientation of the egg was a deliberate choice (rare for me to actually think about that sort of detail :lol:) I was aiming to keep the egg more mysterious and strange (although with the colours it was probably all too obvious anyway)

Cheers Scott, for Shoot, as said, I messed up the first, I was trying to get a gunners eye view... and the second, light, what light ? :lol: there wasn't a lot of light in the sub...

I took a few with the box straight, but they didn't have quite the same feel to me.

Thanks, as said, it was a deliberate choice... If I can find the egg, as in it's not been eaten, I'll probably shoot it again with the label shown... A very strange bird I reckon... :D
 
I really like this.

When I was shooting eggs for an earlier week I tried them in an egg-box and couldn't get anything I was happy with. I think you found the right angle and composition with this.

I quite like the fact I can't see the egg manufacturer (although I know who it is :)). First impression was a smile because of the non-real-egg in the box rather than a Lindt egg. I think Sarah just wants to see the name so she can drool over it ;)

For me, having the manufacturers name would have detracted from the image (it would have been an advert), and I like it as it is. Just my humble opinion though!

Single, choice of egg great taste. Farmfoods have them on offer, as for the picture i like it, maybe would of liked the label to be on show but when i say that i actually like the way it all goes together.

Cheers Dave, the label was a deliberate choice, I did think about putting the label forwards, but wanted to avoid it looking like a product shot, perhaps I should have turned it a little more aware leaving more pattern and less text...

Well I was not inspired by this theme in anyway shape or form... but then it occurred to me that I have stuff staring away for long periods of time... so here's two totally different yet at the same time somewhat similar stares.. somewhat crowbarred but you know what... that's just fine :D.


1) Staring at Stars - The Pinwheel
My camera was staring for a little over 13 hours on this faint beasty... it's about 27 million light years away..

2) Staring at The moon... 69 pane mosaic, made up of 350 frames per pane.



Clicky for full size (it's 27Mpx)...


I learnt that even after 13 hours of capture time it can still be damned hard to process and get a decent result...

Here's to next week theme being something a little more inspiring... it'll probably be something to do with the night sky and we'll end up clouded out all week...:bang::bang:

both images are excellent, but the detail in the moon shot is absolutely amazing. Have seen lot's of moon pics, but this HAS TO BE one of the (if not THE) best one I've seen!

Thanks very much... If I had an Imaging source CCD, or a SkyNyx and a monster scope, I'm sure I could do better... but I'm happy with what I'm getting from my kit at the moment, and that would cost a lot of money...

These are amazing - I don't really understand how you do it but your hard work certainly pays off.
 
Fantastic shots, John. I'd have no idea how to go about taking a 13 hour exposure!! Love the pinwheel particularly!
