I really like this one - simple and effective composition with great colours and detail. You have done really well with the focus - I know how hard that is with that combo.

Thanks Tracer

Tricky one this... been sick, and not fully recovered, and the rush of Christmas too.... still... managed to get a shot done... not great.. I couldn't set it up how I wanted to and ended up shooting with a window behind...

Hope you are fully recovered and managed to enjoy Christmas.

Picture fit the theme nicely - nice patterns in the wood.

A simple and appealing image - brings out the texture of the wood and nicely juxtaposed against the black background.

Merry Xmas

Phil

I like the lighting and the texture has come out well. I think I would prefer a central position for this, though - or very off-centre, i.e. in landscape format.

Merry Christmas John. Hope you're managing to have a good one despite being sick and best wishes for a quick recovery.

The needle shot is absolutely fantastic and I can just imagine how much of a PITA it was to set up. It's paid off though. Seriously good shot - actually one of the best macros that I've seen.
I marginally prefer the brighter one, but the original worked well enough just as it was.

Romance : Bang on theme and it looks like another tricky one to get right. I don't know how you managed to stop it from swinging around.
It's worked though. Beautiful textures and colours in that wood and the focus is perfect.

Thanks all. The needle has got better still (I think) having reprocessed it in a different way... Curves instead in Aperture.

Much better now. I'm mostly back to normal..

I hope you all had a good Christmas

And to finish out the year, a bit of a fizzle, but it's been a busy week, with no chance for photography. So a quick grab to get something.

Monkeh and his new friend playing a duet "Together"

Shot with the nifty, lit with my flash, in front of the monkeh's at 1/4 power, with a lambency diffuser. I realised I messed up the DOF, and it could have done with more, but only after I'd put everything away, and it's too late now to get it all out again.

Another 52 project done, I've enjoyed it again, although I'm glad it's over. I think I'm probably going to miss it next year, but I'm not going to do it again.

It's not showing up for me, John - I'll come back later.

Edit: I see it now. Lovely - awwwww! Are they playing "chopsticks"?

Well done for getting through to the end of the year - like you I am glad it's over!

Congratulations on completing your 52, John  It's a nice feeling when it is all over but trying to come up with something every week is quite tying.

I found this week's shot an amusing take on the theme! I especially like the red shirt which gives it a bit of colour.

I agree the PP on the needle is much better. Excellent shot.

All the very best for 2011.

Jenny

Well done on getting to the end John.

Lovely shot to go out on - Monkeh playing the closing notes of 2010's 52.
Made me smile and as Jenny said the red shirt stands out well. I actually like the DoF as it is too.

It seems odd to get to a Monday morning without needing to take a photo this week, but I'm looking forward to a break this year too.
A HUGE thank you for all your comments and support this year . . . and maybe 2012 will be another 52 year for us.

Well done for getting to the end & finishing with a little humour!

I've enjoyed seeing your photos this year and commenting on them. Thank you for taking the trouble to comment on mine.

Happy new year,

Phil

Another finisher of a tough challenge. Well done.

Close really stands out for me. I can only dream of shooting that close withhekit I have at the moment. The needle is superb but you seem to have lost some detail in the thread.

Romantic works well. Good texture and pure black background.

Together - bang on theme and a great shot to finish with.

Thanks Sarah, it does seem odd to be a new week and not having to think of how to interpret a random theme (possibly grunge :D), but the break is gonna be good.

Thanks very much Andy . The only macro kit I've got is cheap stuff fitted to a cheap telephoto, I think it's about £40 worth of macro add ons. I'll have another look at the thread.

John, just catching up with the past few weeks comments.

Like the re-edit of close with the cleaner background. I mentioned this to Sarah for one of her shots - selective desaturation on the needle, bring down the yellows to get a more metallic look. Just my preference.

Romance: Nice shot. Good texture from the wood. I agree with Tracer - a landscape format, maybe even letterbox with the pendant off to the left or right.

Together: Nice end to the year and the project. As you say maybe a little more DOF and perhaps a little more contrast.

Glad that a few of us made it all the way through to the end. I too might give this year a miss, although I have enjoyed it immensely and gained a lot from it.

Thanks very much Paul, I'll take a look at a bit of a desat on the needle.

It was a tough year, and we had a hell of an attrition rate didn't we ?
