John Lindsay's 52 - A Photo A Week for a Year UPDATED to Week 22

I think its fantastic, would love to hear how you set up the shot, superb image.

Hi Hyster.

Its set up with the tennis ball on an elastic band hanging from anything really, 2 remote flash guns, one at either side, to the back of the ball.

Ball then dipped in water, the elastic band twisted and the ball was then let go, and fire away.

Actually pretty simple!

Bit of a catch up for me. :)

Week 15: Love the graphic quality, the processing and the timing of the drips and drops. Excellent.

Week 16: Another 'Excellent' from me on this one. You say it's simple, but I'd never have thought of it - or executed it so well. Very, very clever - and great to do something different.:clap:

Boing - Brilliant, although I think there might be a slight lean top to the right??

Drip - Another great shot. Being at my most picky I think it feels a little off balance as the drip in the middle glass is at the same height as the splash in the last glass. I would have liked to see the drip being a fraction higher in the middle glass (perhaps 1/2 way between the first and last heights)

Spin - Best of the 3 IMO, simple yet very effective. It looks almost planet like

Week 17 - Alison

After a bit of an overdose recently on the technical type stuff, here's something a bit different:

Well I've missed posting up another weeks shot but I still took one!

I've been really busy recently getting everything together as my final submission date for college is this Friday the 15th! However now at long last it's done, and sitting in a pile waiting to go. I need to pick up some prints and that'll be it, and will just need to wait on my grade coming back!

Anyway, here's weeks 17 and 18

Week 18

The last shot in my applied/technical type Graded unit. Relieved to have it finished now, and the album looks simply brilliant.

Week 19

A friend of mine turned 21 this week and someone asked me to do a sort of montage of pictures of him. This is what I've come up with as a draft, just waiting for the go-ahead however any help from you guys would be much appreciated.

catching up here the tenis ball is fantastic, really well done.

also really like the light trails, the green stripes really add to it :)

Week 17 is a great shot, horizon maybe a little squint but its very good.

Week 18 is a fine collection of pics, can't help thinking that the bottom right pic stands out as the weaker of the three, maybe its the front of the car being cut out of the frame, not sure.

Three good shots John... you seem to have taken week 17 twice ;)...

Alison, I'm not good with taking shots of people of commenting on them... I do like the light from behind though, that's great.

I've yet to try light trails, but that one has worked really well, and I too like the green.. what was that ?

The action shots in the last one are very good, and the link to the fourth works, but as Hyster said it doesn't quite have the strength of the other 3, but I understand (I think) why it's there and within the context it works very well.

Your right, I numbered them incorrectly, somehow :S

Anyway, thanks for the comments guys, The horizon is actually straight, just that it comes uphill at that point. The green lights high up are on the front of a passing truck I think!

The stationary shot in the montage is more of a laugh, as the guy has a habit of putting it off the road and that shot is just after a said moment!

Week 17 - Alison: I like the idea - a very glitzy model in a woodland setting and as John says, the light is good. I'm a bit confused about the model's 'look', though. She's glitzy in a tee-shirt, and I suppose I would have posed her in a different sort of top, but I'm way out of date on fashion and what's a 'good' look. It's still a great idea.

Week 18 - Light trails: I like these shots anyway, and the trails on this one are very nice - I'm wondering what the green ones are, too. It gets my :thumbs: Tweak the horizon a tad. :)

Week 19 - Cars: As always I don't know wht to say about cars! I like the montage idea but my eye keeps going to the sky in the bottom right pic and I think I would have cropped it to keep the car but lose the sky, or if that's not possible move it to top right. I think the angle the car's at would look better top right because it would lead the eye round the pic better. The car currently top right has got quite a lot of foreground and I think that would actually be better bottom right.

What did you go with in the end? I bet the friend was chuffed with it - which is always the most important thing. :)

In the end I completely changed it and went for this:

The guy was really happy with it and is now looking for a frame for it!

Well another wee catch up!

Week 20 - Tunnock's

Following up a job that has been going on for ages and this is the final shot I need to let the brochure go to print. Still not completely happy with it because the ground is wet and looks untidy. However there's still time to re-shoot.

I was asked to do some promotional shots for this car. It's a kit car, based on a Subaru Impreza, Engine, running gear etc. Quite a nice wee thing really! First time I've done anything like it and I'm really pleased with the shots!

Good set John. I really like Tunnocks, the stack of the signage and the old van works well for me. I like the rally car, the front wheel looks stationary, so I guess a higher shutter speed, but there's no mistaking it's going through the corner. Of the AMS, the first one doesn't really work for me I'm afraid, the background is too much in focus and I'm sort of losing the upper features of the car. The others work well though

love the bakery with the old trunk, well spotted

car dont do much for me tbh but the first one in week 21 looks like its under the logs

overall they are good shots imo i espically like the last 2 :)

Hi Guys & Gals,

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I'm just back from a 2 week Holiday in Mallorca. Will try and get back on with this 52 once i've got everything else back under control :naughty:
