Yes
I want to buy a camera with an extended warranty (including damage) and can only find it at John Lewis, though that is only for two years (I would ideally like 3 years or more ! ) and the extra warranty is an additional £30.
They are currently advertising a Panasonic TZ99 for £470. That camera is available for £380 (e.g. at Cotswold cameras) so would I be able to buy it from JL then claim the difference back, or would they get out of it with small print ?
Have the esteemed members of this forum had any experience with the John Lewis "Price Promise" ?

John Lewis dropped their ‘never knowingly undersold’ slogan in 2022, but then reinstated it in 2024.

Not used it myself. Also doubt they’ll match grey import pricing.

It is on their website.

We only price match with items sold directly by these retailers. We don’t match with 3rd party sellers or marketplaces on their websites. How to know if an item is sold by a 3rd party.

I have had issues with JL matching Amazon pricing so good luck getting them to match cotswold and the like. In my experience it will be met with a big NO.

My last expereince was with some Airpod Pro 2 nd gen. Amazon had them for £179.99 and I filled out the JL paperwork for a price match to be told NO becuase they are on sale with Amazon...so I just brought them from Amazon and used the saving to buy the apple care. Less than two days later, JL had reduced their price to match them.....

Can't help UK firms sometimes, even if you try.

Conditions used to be in stock locally at a bricks and mortar shop before they would price match.
No way they will honour it with a grey importer and don't blame them either.

What's a grey importer ? ! ?
Basically supplier that is outside of the official OEM supply chain that circumvents import duty/VAT in order offer lower pricing to their customers. There are some firms that have been operating like this for years.

Also any warranty offered extended or otherwise will not be the official Panasonic cover

Thank you for that, one learns something every day.....

At £470 (or £500 with a full warranty for two years) I will equivocate for somewhat longer. Maybe a second hand TZ70, 80 or 90 from CEX (I believe they come with a 5 year warranty, though I am dubious about what that actually covers ! ) ?

Looking at their website it seems you can extend the Protection + warranty past the initial 2 years, but I cannot find a price.

They will try everything to not match.
I tried getting them to match a Tv.
Model numbers were of by 1 due to colour difference and they refused.
"To match: corresponding in some essential respect with something previously mentioned or chosen, e.g.: "a new coat and a hat to match"

...therefor, if the model numbers are different, by even one digit, they don't match and in my opinion, the staff at John Lewis are quite right to refuse to deal on that basis.

Standard practice among companies that offer to "price match".

They buy in volume, so get the manufacturers to produce a customised model (which has a very minor cosmetic difference, and, crucially, a slightly different model number). Nobody else is selling the exact same model and so they never actually have to price match.

Ohhh, you're such a cynic !

More importantly, how about some proof of such a claim?
I used to work for PC World many years ago. I can’t provide proof now but you can take my word, that is exactly what they do.

Not every product, but we had plenty of TV’s and laptop models that weren’t available anywhere other than in PC World and Currys stores.

Have you ever tried to price match or compare prices of a bed? Same reason. Many retailers offering exactly the same product but all called something different.
