Yes
evenung all just been to collect a Joby gorillapod SLR and thought my Manfrotto Befree head would fit but when I've got home the threat size is different

Is it possible to get a different bolt do Joby only do one size which fits the bottom of their ball head!

If you bought it new it should have come with an adaptor methinks.

The way to go is get an adapter like others have said. The jobs is designed to fit directly onto the camera hence a 1/4 thread. I've got an acre Swiss clamp on the top of by gorilla pod, it connects via a 3/4 to 1/4 adapter and the Acura Swiss clamp makes connecting the camera much easier as I have a L bracket on my camera.

My gorilla pod came with an adaptor, simply screwed over the top of the other one. Just like the one in sirch's link!

Also, the 1/4" and 3/8" threads are British Standard Whitworth threads.

Actually, they're UNC rather than Whitworth. They have the same diameter and pitch as Whitworth but the angle of the teeth of the threads is slightly different. The 2 threads are close enough that they'll usually fit each others nuts and bolts but it's always best to use the correct, matching threads.
