I've been back in the UK for 3 weeks now and I must have applied for about 30 jobs, maybe more.

I've been offered 2 interviews, one of which I didn't get, and one of which I'm waiting to hear back from and it's starting to get to me now!

Is the current climate really that bad?

I applied for about 5 warehouse jobs near me after finishing at Uni. I even have warehouse experience but know I didn't get taken on at at least 1 of them as I was over 22 and they'd have had to pay me more than anyone under 22 (from a friend who works for the company and knows the guy conducting interviews)

I advertised for a delivery driver a few weeks ago. I normally get 20-30 applications, I had over 200 this year.

Apparently McD's are getting 2000 applications a day.

Last year I applied for loads of sales jobs. Mainly through agencys, and must have applied for over 100 and even a few of the ones i had interviews for gave no feedback.

i'm not gonna apply for mcdonalds or similar unless in a couple of months i have no options left! i've even applied at my local jessops

I see your in spalding, im down the road in lincoln and it's exactly the same.

I've been applying for loads every month for the last 6 months and only had a couple of replies.

I think lincolnshire is on its arse! I've been studying bank robbing ***, theres gotta be some way of paying the bills right!

I'm near Sleaford in the middle of both of you and have been job hunting since last october:(

but if your looking for a get-away-driver...:naughty: :):)

oh god haha sounds like im gonna have a good time ahead of me.

and i'll be in on that if you need someone else

Well im stuffed as well. Seems to be alot of people around the sleaford area though..... lets start our own business lol.

Saturday's Telegraph said that 60,000 students have been unable to get university places, many with 3 A's, because so many more people who would normally have got a job have been unable to find one and so applied to university as an alternative. It's hard times that's for sure!

even when the climate was good, jobs were hard to get if you were young. I had everything going for me including sales experience and damn good exam grades and other stuff that I had experience in, I applied for 40+ jobs, got around 12 interviews, got offered a couple of commision only based jobs (no thanks mate!) then got called back for a second and third interview and tests for a big company and worked for them. Turned out ok but took 3 months to get there. Was madness.

I'v applied for 30ish jobs, had 2 interviews, one i didnt get and one i'm waiting to hear from. and i got offered 1 commision only.

Wow, you guys found thirty vacancies!!! It's hard even to find jobs to apply for in Cornwall.:|

Luckily I'm not looking but my boyfriend is.

Managed to get a job for a few weeks with coca cola thanks to a recruitment agency.

Said agency were rubbish while dealing with a position a applied for a couple of weeks ago, and didnt let me know anything that was going on, but they called me today with another position (be it only temp) and i start on monday.

Score

Well got shot in the back from that job.

Because we were all being so quick with our work, they've decided they only need to keep 3 people on to finish the work now.

So what started out at 3-4 weeks has ended at 1 week. :bang::thumbsdown:

We are really slow at work at the moment, my boss has had to go and work as a contractor just to bring enough money in to keep me employed.

That's great news :D

If you do get stuck again, best bet round here is to ring around a few of the gangmasters. There is still plenty of manual work in the fields and factories. Temporary, but if you get a good gangmaster they won't see you out of work for long.

Edit: That will teach me for not reading to the end! hope my advice pays for you ;)

I know that many vacancies are having hundreds of applications, but I think all should be informed if they have failed and a reason why.

Is the scarcity of jobs localised or is it all over the country? I thought we were coming out of the recession according to the government.

I know in the South East with everything that has happened to the banks and financial institutes there are many high end earners going for lesser vacancies and are signing on the job seekers allowance, again hundreds going for the one opening.

When will we see an upturn.

Congratulations Marcusp13. :)

i was looking for work for 6 months until last week where i got a job, i applied for hundreds of jobs and had only three interviews.

its a tough time to be looking.

I've even started applying for positions over 20 miles away from me (when i have no car at this moment in time) because it's getting that ridiculous.

I was very lucky to walk straight out of University and into a good job doing events management. The downside is I am commuting for over 3 hours a day to Birmingham and back, costing nearly £300 per month with rail passes, car parking and petrol.

I have been looking recently for something closer to home in either events management or marketing but there is noting about! I really do feel for you guys out there job hunting.

Good luck!!!

Yay! Got an interview in the morning at my auntie's workplace. I love family ha

Whey to dig up an old thread but I'm now working with my auntie at a pet food store sorting out deliveries which is good money (for an 18 year old) and is good fun too.

AND I get paid weekly
