Haven't posted here in a while! Just recently got my internet at my new flat, took forever and is more unstable than a guest on the Jerry Springer show!

Anyway, my first quick question is if anyone has done jewellery photography before? I have been offered a job to help someone just starting out in Jewellery to take some photos for of her work. (About 50 sets of jewellery)

I told her I would do it for £5 per photo. She agreed that was fair.

The thing is she wants to buy the copyright so she can reproduce the photos at her discretion to clients etc.

I have no idea what to charge here... I told her it wouldn't be cheap to buy the copyright but she said she udnerstands that and it is something she would diffenately need.

I estimate doubling it to about £10 a photo if she wants the copyright. Is this about right?

£10 per photo for full rights? Tell her to get lost.

£20 more fair?

I don't want to over charge her as she is just starting out, as so am I in a way.

I was thinking I could tell her £15 per photo and she needs to leave a watermark on the images (she said she would be fine with this).

Also the photos will be used on her website too, so I said a link to my website would would be mandatory.

Is that fair?

I provide images to a company in the nail industry.
I realise it may be a slightly different for me as Im the artist within the image as well as the photographer so I guess I can be quite 'precious' about it.
However, I have never yet been asked to sell my copyright and nor would I.

The company uses my images for web/ media advertising / catalogue, but my copyright is retained and so if my image is used in any way Im not happy about ... as it was recently, I still have the right to pull it or make them compensate.

Though i know very little about this, surely if you sold you copyright for 50 pictures for £15 a go and her buisness took off she could make thousands and still be using your pictures and owe you nothing?

If you're really desperate for the cash then sell her photos at that price. Don't sell her copyright for less than a few thousand.

I wouldn't do that either.

Why not set up an agreement where if she wants a photo - she calls you and you get it to her client in a day by using an online printer. She then pays you a reduced rate of say £4 per photo instead of the usual £5 - or some price similar.

As has been said here, don't sell your copyright...!! not unless it's big money.
