Question is are all jessops branches manned by uninterested half wits?

Probably not but that been my recent experience with the branch in Middlesbrough!

Total apathy!

No wonder they appear to have little long term future!

Rant over...sorry:bang:

I think it might be the shops with about 2% stock, the totally uninterested staff, the lack of pentax/olympus in stock, the massive price reductions which are unneccesary (8gb cf for £5.50???)

I think they are fighting a losing battle

Do we really need another boring "Bash Jessops thread"????????

A really simple answer to your problem is if you don't like to shop there, don't bother. No ones forcing you through the door.

To be honest I have always found them a bit hit and miss. I remember when I was buying my first DSLR - Canon 10D. The guy was trying to show me the equivelent Nikon. He managed to force the memory card in upside down and bent the pins in the camera. When he told his boss the reply was "Oh, not again".

There were a couple of guys who were passionate about photography that I had alot of time for but there were enough numbskulls to stop me shopping there.

I buy most of my kit online and have never had any issues. I can shop when I want and save the hassle of parking etc.

I would say that at least Jessops attempt to have a shop door image but I find them much the same as PC World, Dixons etc. Half ull of staff that are uninterested and ill informed. They are also extremely prone to making up things when describing a product they usually have little or no idea about the spec of.

Mind you at £5.50 for an 8GB card I might just put the old hypocritical hat on and toddle down there.

Can't you just search for "jessops" and read the threads that appear? This has been done to death.

I bought my 50mm 1.4 from them, knew what i wanted anyway and they were helpful all the same. Cheapest too. They were a week or 2 ago doing the Nikon 17-55 for 869, most places are around the £1k mark so they are not too bad.

Eh?

It's disgraceful, imagine them offering stuff at bargain prices :shake:

There's no pleasing some people

the lack of pentax/olympus in stock,

I must say is their position, I wouldn't stock Pentax or Olympus either. Stock handling, logistics, shelf space, etc all for 5.6% market share!

With Canon, Nikon and Sony providing >85% of the market I think this is a strategy to help them succeed rather than fail!

To be fair i agree with slippery on the middlesbrough store front, the staff are terrible i was in yesterday after some illford xp2 in 35mm yes i know film isnt exactly the hottest selling item but it took me about 5 minutes to explain to the staff what it was then it took them 10 minutes of claiming the box of 120 film they brought out wasnt what i wanted before finnaly i was about to pay when they told me they couldnt accept card payment but it would be fixed tommorrow and i quote what the sales woman said to me here "But that doesnt bother me as i wont be in tommorow".

Yes we have all walked into a Jessops assuming they would know one end of a lens from the other or even maybe the spec of a body.
Only to find they are ill trained and embarassed in what they are being asked.

The staff are not to blame it is the lack of training and the take it or leave it attitude of the management.

Well its not just the training really the fact a member of staff comes out with oh you have a problem but i wont be in tommorrow so i dont care sets off some alarm bells to me

Well I am real sorry that my rant upset some of you!

Yes having recently joined and having just looked at similar threads it has been done before.

However I'm amazed at their lack of interest and wanted to convey that fact.

If you dont want to read about peoples feelings and experiences with Jessops then when you see the title just ignore the thread!

No Problem- if you have titled the thread "Rant about Jessops" I doubt many would have read it (well, I would have avoided it).

And welcome to the forums :)

We all might be surprised some day and someone may actually say something constructive about them, not this negativity b/s that crops up here far to often. We all know what they are like, I hate them and never use them, simple. I'd suggest you do the same.

After reading some threads on Jessops before hand, I risked it and entered the shop in Chapelfield, Norwich. And I was actually very suprised... They were very very helpful.

The lady approached me, asked if she could help, I explained what I was looking forward, she gave me the options... Showed me what they had, and in fact when out of her way into the staffroom to show me a review in a magazine on a couple of the lenses I was looking at, and even went and burrowed, and found me a Canon brochure with a range of all their lenses to take away...!

She knew what she was talking about as well! She even asked me what I'd be using the lens for, I said Wildlife, and without hesitation she said I would need a IS lens, she realised what sort of budget I had and said that Ultrasonic lenses would be too much.

I was rather quite pleasently suprised after some of the stuff I'd read, but maybe I was just one of the lucky few? :)

I Like JESSOPS !!!! - the store in Fenchurch Street London, and the one in Basildon are staffed by helpful, knowledgable and interested people. Never ever had a problem in either store so it's unfair to tar all with the same brush !

Credit to the harrogate branch as well, never had any problems and have always been very helpfull but the middlesbrough branch is terrible, its a shame really

I have seen most of the jessops threads over the last 2 years & must admit I thought alot of people were just whinging about not much. However , I am currently dealing with their web dept. And have eventually came to the conclusion they are worse than hopeless, unbelievably useless, I find them increddibly inept.

there is a nice lad in the lakeside branch as well
all ways helpful and is a keen photographer himself

:plusone: For Basildon (and you don't hear that very often). At least a couple of the younger staff are DSLR users, always been happy to let you try out lenses if you take your camera in.
