Jessops (yet again)

I think I'll sit out of this one

This must be really hard for you.

I must say, back a few years ago I had horrid experiences with Jessops, but surprisingly this has changed a lot over the past year. I still don't buy much from them, for many reasons that I don't want to get into here, but when I do they are always giving me excellent service.

All in all, the quality of the staff is great, so too is the range of products they stock.

Frankly, they, and the "other" local camera store are - at least - there for me to hold the camera and gear that I want and allow me to play with it a bit.

Sadly the world's buying habbits are changing, as such we will for sure see the end of specialist stores like these. As bad as Jessops may be to most / many, it has served me well :).

.....

Is it any wonder Jessops are having a difficult time when their sales staff can't even comprehend the needs of a customer.
If the sales staff at the company I work for couldn't answer questions or advise people with regard to IT kit, we would all be out of a job!

It's times like these it reminds me why I stopped going to retail shops and on the whole, prefer to buy online.

It's not because of the sales staff, it's a change in buying habbits and style that's pushing these stores out of business.

Jessops is positioned somewhere between being a "specialist" and a "hobbiest", and it that part of the market is being erroded by Internet sale's outlsets (Amazon, OneStopDigital, to list a few).

getyour selves down to reading justin in there knows his onions and if hes not in i go in again on a day when he will be yes i know his name and you should know your store staff,s names its much more helpfull when you walk in and say hi how are you etc:clap:go justin go:clap:

Great :) I'll remember this, thanks :D

Jessops. After a 6 week wait, last Wednesday they told me that my lens was now in the warehouse. Next day delivery should mean that I have been using it since last Thursday. Let's hope it arrives tomorrow.

I will not buy again from Jessops unless it is on interest free/instock/undamaged (and checked in store before I leave).

I am content to pay a premium for service or convienience, seemingly they offer neither.

Chris

I think the problem is that they are putting used / ex demo stock back in circulation as new  If something has been used / sold and returned it needs to be sold as such. They do have a problem in that lots of people want to handle cameras and they invariably get mauled a bit. This must cost them when it is happening to expensive stock. I have cringed in the past when seeing people messing with cameras or poking the inside when no lens is on.

I personally don't buy gear, use it and take it back. I think morally it would be wrong.

Chris :)

I agree with what you said, i am sure a lot of gear sold as new is not, which should be addressed by the company, As for morels i have none, so no problem for me,:suspect:

Kind regards Mark.

I live in Coventry and have, in the past, used the Coventry and Leamington SPA branches, I find the staff extremely unhelpful. Both stores have little or no stock and what stock they do have is overpriced. In the Leamington Branch I even heard one of the sales guys telling a woman not to buy a 2gb sd card for her camera and to go for something bigger (more expensive) as a 2gb card would only get 200 images on it ! the fibber. I was about to butt in, when the lady told the guy that her husband had told her exactly what to purchase and if it was wrong she would ask him to pop back and exchange the product. I no longer use Jessops, Jacobs in Leicester is a far better shop and the staff are very helpful.

Great to hear so much praise for jessops. I'm glad to hear this once valuable resource isn't gone. Except here in Aberystwyth, where it is most definitely a waste of time. :bang:

People in Aberystwyth are lucky to have any kind of camera shop at all...

There used to be a couple of decent guys in there....
