Yes
As above really, picked up my camera on the weekend and had to endure the usual sales pitch... however was tempted by the jessops warranty especially when the assistant said if camera accidentally gets broke beyond repair they'll replace it with a new one or as its being discontinued the newer model. Is it that simple? Whats stopping me from using this for a couple of years, then when fancy a new camera breaking it and getting the newer model through the warranty?

I'm sure that your covered for accidental damage . I think you would get a replacement if it was beyond repair . I only had to use my extra cover once when a micro switch failed . Just remember that insurance fraud is taken very seriously and you could end up with anything up to a jail sentence if caught and found guilty . Also who would ever want to insure you after ? How would you get car or house insurance ? I don't think that a false claim is worth the risks

I had something similar with Curry's a couple years ago, it was through a 3rd party as I expect Jessops is.

Mine did cover accidental damage. I cracked the LCD screen, and got it repaired no questions asked.

Brother had the same cover, he dropped his and cracked the corner of the body. Again repaired no questions asked and everything was checked and aligned internally too.

It was something ridiculously cheap like £2.99 a month if I remember rightly. But you must check the T&C's before you sign up, as each company is different and T&C's have a habit for changing monthly/weekly etc.

I've never bought an extended warranty previously with any of my cameras, but when i decided to buy a Fuji X100 I thought it might be a good idea, for peace of mind, given the sticky aperture blade issue, I did not have confidence that the camera would last 3 years, but i really wanted one.

I checked around and Jessop's 3 year warranty was £99, while John Lewis's was £47, like Jessops, JL also included accidental damage, it was also transferable.

As the X100 was the same price in JL as everywhere else, i bought my camera from them so i could have the cheaper 3 year warranty.

Obviously i would never purposefully damage my camera, not only would that be immoral (in my opinion) and illegal, actions like that only increase insurance premiums to everyone in the long term.

If i want a newer model i will sell the old one, and buy a new one, as i have always done.

I hope i havent come across as a warranty fraudster (which by the sounds of it i have), this was not my intention. Im just questioning the integrity of jessops warranty, the assistant seemed overly confident that whatever happened to my camera big or small it would be covered and if anything serious happened like the camera got dropped and smashed to pieces he said just bring the pieces back and they'll replace with a new camera no questions asked - which to me sounded to easy and simple - and things are never that easy and simple in my experience. This is my second camera and the wife also has a camera, weve never taken warranty out on any of our cameras until the mrs broke hers a few months back and we had to pay (more than what we'd like, but less than the cost of a replacement) to get it fixed. So now warranty or some kind or accidental damage cover is being put on both cameras, i just wanted to know are jessops as good the assistant made me believe (or do he just do his job well)?

There's really only one way to take a comment like that.

Jessops 3 year additional warranty covers accidental damage...i have used it

as far as i'm concerned it was a perfectly legitimate question albeit blunt and straight to the point. maybe next time i'll speak in hypothetical terms so that assumptions arent cast against me.

I have had many of these warranties in my time... let me just explain a few things

The Warranty offered with Jessops is underwritten by Domestic and General. I have had a mixture with these guys. A few years ago I purchased a Canon 50mm lens which was working great until it accidentally fell out of my kit bag on to a stone floor. The lens was taken in to Jessops and repaired. The repair took around 6 weeks to complete though which to be honest is a little too long for this sort of thing.

The second time I had dealing with them the lens attached itself to my 400d and refused to come off. The only way to get it off was to twist and break the plastic. Took the lens in to Jessops and sent it away. The lens came back within three weeks but it was full of dust, so it was sent back. The lens then took another 4 weeks to come back from repair. The conditions of the warranty state that they should take no longer than 6 weeks to get repaired, however when I telephoned Jessops they said that it was in transit for 1 week so the 6 week rule would not apply. When the lens finally arrived it was in a horrific condition, and way out of alignment. The manager insisted that I take the lens and try it and as I was pushed for time this is what I did.

The lens was returned to the store along with all the paper work. After another 2 weeks they deputy manager just gave me a new one from his display cabinet….

Currys warranty is slightly different but can be just as troublesome.
