Can't believe what a pain it has been to get my Sigma 85mm lens from them and still waiting.Rang then numerous times telling me there has been a problem with the supplier and what not but today took the p*ss.

It's coming upto the 28day mark now and got told that it still not in stock yet and they're waiting for it to come from Japan? So rang Sigma uk and they said that they have plenty sat on the shelf and it would come from them not Japan and that it could have been sent out the next day!I went for the finance option but wished I had just saved the money up now with all the messing about from Jessops.

Anyway rang Jessops again and told them what Sigma uk said and according to them the bloke that told me it was coming from Japan was new and got his wires crossed.:cuckoo: Got told I will have the lens this week but won't hold my breath..It's like they don't want to sell any products.Seen plenty of good and bad post's about Jessops and now I understand the negativity towards them.

Just like any shop, there are some very good staff and some total numbnuts.

I just don't understand why it is taking so long when it is stock at Sigma?I know when I ordered it says it could take upto 28days but I really didn't think it actually would do. If it wasn't finance I would have bought somewhere else without a doubt after reading some things about Jessops on here and other sites.

It's the finance company that might need chasing. Until you're approved Jessops will not release the stock to you. I'd check with them and see how the application is going.

The finance company where brilliant m8.They sent out the paper work super fast and got accepted the next day of posting it back. It's Jessops that are the one's messing about for whatever reason?

Jessops need a boot up the bum. If you could afford to buy the lens outright, right now, it might be better to do that and tell Jessops to take a running jump.

It may have something to do with their credit arrangements with Sigma .
Bill outstnading / xxx number of days to pay from purchase . Or they may have a minimum order value that they have to place with them . I know that most of the supliers I deal with day to day have this in place .

There was a time my wife wanted to work at Jessops.
During the interview she told the manager what she knows about cameras and photography in general - and she was told that this is not relevant.
The manager was only interested in selling experience.
Today I have visited brand new Jessops store in Luton.
Teenagers with no experience in photography or gear knowledge.

That's why I'm not asking for ANY advice when I'm in Jessops store.
It's like talking to IT Analyst about cooking.

Sigma UK withdrew their credit line from Jessops back when it looked as if the latter were going down the pan - that's why they don't carry any stock of their lenses.

If Jessops are saying the lens is coming direct from Japan it might be they are either sourcing their lenses direct from the factory or from a "grey" supplier and not from Sigma UK at all....

I'm IT Analyst  And cooking (although I can cook) is not my favourite subject. Didn't want to offend anyone ;) :naughty:

Would that effect warranty in anyway??Just hope nothing is wrong with the lens when I finally do get it as I don't want the hassle of sending it back and waiting god knows how long.

Your first port of call with a warranty is the retailer anyway, but I doubt it would prevent Sigma UK form doing work on the lens anyway as the VAT etc will have been paid on import.

Only had positive experiences with our local store. Very helpful and honest advice.

I was told by Sigma that they dont really care providing the VAT is paid, therefor with Jessops you would defo be paying the VAT.

I really dont undestand Jessops. How can you operate a company where you have to wait up to 28 days for things. If you look at most of their website it says 28 days for most products.

When i went to purchase a camera for my old man i went to Jessops first, but every camera i wanted was either out of stock, but available to order or they did not stock that line. Went to a local camera shop who had stock of pretty much every one i asked for. The one that they didnt have in stock, they said it could be with me for the next day.

when I ordered mine from Park Cameras it took about 3 weeks to arrive but they did say that it will. Unlucky me the focus motor inside the lens was broken and I couldnt wait for another replacement to arrive and went for the Nikon 85 1.4 G

Jessops some time ago tried to sell me a second hand Nikon D300 as new. Having had new Nikons before the didn't catch me out but could easily have done with someone new to photography. How did I know? new camera new card 1400 shots taken already according to exif files and the screen protector was missing. The other thing that worried me was they said they had opened the box so they could charge up the battery first. If your going to by from Jessops by all means do so BUT KNOW the product your buying inside out and check it over thouroughly several times first.

I think Jessops have improved greatly over the last couple of years, the prices are now nearly the same as most online stores and the fact that you can go in and hold the cameras before buying is a big bonus to me. I recently went to the recently moved store in the Trafford Centre in Manchester to have a good look at the Nikon D90, it was great to be able to have a play and I fell in love instantly, if Jessops goes it will be difficult to find anywhere that I can play before buying.

I agree as there are fewer shops where you can go and actually see the goods before you buy them. I suspect the writing is on the wall for a lot of local shops now.

Jessops have had their credit problems with Sigma which could account for the longer delay but the general move to holding no stock is not new and not uncommon, just try getting next day delivery on a suite, or go into Comet and try buying a fridge to take away.
However, if you're not happy with the service your only option is to take your business elsewhere even if that means refinancing.

It's very dependant on which Jessops you go to. I have an excellent one near to me staffed by all photographers, yet another in our area is staff by numptys who could be selling cameras or clothes they are just shop sales staff.

Apart from potential credit problems it could also be about a minimum order limit with Sigma per store, not a good move on anyone's part to lie about the reason, lies always come out in the end. I am in sales and I have always been honest about delays etc with my customers.

Hrm I suspect its because Sigma had pulled Jessop's credit line a while back so they (Jessops) have adopted a pay per order model.

Of course I could be mistaken and Sigma have re-instated Jessop's credit account.

Jacobs in Edinburgh are a million tomes better than the Jessops down the road from them. I'm surprised given their close proximity to each other that Jessops get any customers!

Well today is when they said it would be in stock and sent out...Won't hold my breath.:bang:

There are two Jessops in Glasgow and a Jacobs in the middle all in Sauchiehall St. Just like the little city (couldn't resist ;) ) a few miles along the road one Jessops - the bigger store at the top of the hill - is great mostly staffed by togs. The one at Buchanan St. is a small store with eijits...I posted on another thread how a girl was trying and failing to take passport pics by moving her arms back and forth to focus, I think, while squinting at the LCD screen. Funny if they weren't charging someone for it.

Jacobs has some good older staff who know their stuff and a couple of youngsters.

I hope it does turn up for you soon! I've given up with Jessops. All my local ones are awful, according to them the Canon 70-300 which was on their shelf doesnt exist () and the Tamron 17-50 only comes in a pentax fit...

Well looks like I will be recieving my lens tomorrow..They really do mean it when they say 28 days.

Well so much for getting the lens today!!I will never use Jessops again in my life.Got a phone call yesterday sorting some stuff out with me and telling me that it will definitely be today. So I thought I would just ring them as I have not recieved a dispatched email or anything just to get told that the warehouse did not release it to the courier last night!!All I have ever wanted from them is a set date of when I can expect it and they just can't do it!!Will use my local Wilkinsons Cameras in future..even if it cost me more money.

Wilkinsons are very good indeed. And if the little Blackburn shop does not have what you want, they get it from the Preston one for you, always a pleasure to deal with.

Have used them before when I bought my Sony A200 and my 30mm macro and where nothing but helpful.Would have probably used them if I had the cash instead of finance.

Surely you can cancel the credit agreement, they can't be taking any money before you've actually received the goods?

so is the 28 days actually up??

I guess Leicester are quite lucky as both Jessops and Jacobs have at least a couple of decent staff.. only gripe I have with Jessops lately is their in store stock seems to be very minimal.

Its 28 days today..Not actually bothered that it took 28 days because it said that when I ordered it.It's the fact that they just couldn't give me a delivery date at all and then even when they did it still all messed up.Spoke to a nice lady today on the phone @ Jessops who said sorry and that she would make sure it arrives the next day for me...So once again fingers crossed.

So when they say it could take up to 28 days folks they really mean it.
