Anybody ever tried to return a lens ? just wondering where I stand as I bought one about a week ago and I now know I could get it much much cheaper used.
 
I took one back because I thought it was rear focusing, they offered me an exchange or my money back. They have a 30 day limit though.

I doubt if any retailer would accept a return for that reason, would they?
 
I would not say that to them Jim ,I was thinking of saying it was a pressent for my dad but he had bought the same lens. The lens was £1200 if that makes a differance ?

Jessops offer a 30 day "no-quibble" return policy. As long as the item hasn't been used and is returned intact with all packaging etc they will take it back.

If you bought it online rather than from a store then you can return it under the Distance Selling Regulations for any reason. The DSR time (7 days) starts the day after you receive the item, how many days is "about a week"? ;)
 
And before you start slavering a load of mince try and get your facts right
 
I think they should take it back as long as like said the packaging is all intact and it has NOT been used.
To be fair though you would have ALWAYS got one cheaper 2nd hand/used whatever you want to call it, so sending it back on these terms just aint cricket is it, as the saying goes.
Good luck hope they take it back from you.

I am sure that they would take it back provided the packaging etc was all in as sold condition and the lens was unused.

But, surely you were happy to pay that price when you bought it? If not, why did you not hold out and buy second hand? (I don't understand the problem here, not meaning to sound confrontational)

and if they do refund you, someone else will be sold a secondhand lens at the price of a new one
 
i thought they had dropped it to 14 days now last time i looked
i got a tamron 17-50 vc from them and returned it after a week or so and just said it did not fit my requirements
 
I took a 70-200 VR2 back after a couple of weeks and was refunded without any problems.

<joke>Certainly cheaper than hiring one.</joke>

Not the SB700 they sold me as new!! They eventually said it was ex-display, was only in the cabinet 2 days and never used. I popped open the battery door and showed them 4 x Sainsburys own brand batteries......

To be fair, the manager ordered me a new one in and knocked a tenner off.
 
I took a lens back after just under a month and they took it back no hassle.

That's not the same thing though, is it? What I am saying is they won't sell an item a second time as new, what both of you are saying is that they sold a display item as new, which is an entirely different thing and something that they most definitely do.

To be pedantic though, a display item is still "new" unless it's been used for demonstration purposes - think of a car, does one that's been sitting in a showroom unregistered automatically become a used car just because someone has opened the door and sat in it?
 
My dad got £3k off a unregistered display model ford Ka.

Also, mould.
 
Personally I'd want to be quite sure I wanted to spend £1200 on a lens before I handed my cash over, I personally don't think they should have to take it back for the reasons you've given but hey ho, we all have our own interpretations of morality.

new lenses cost more than 2nd hand ones because they are new and covered by manufactuers warranty etc

if someone was saying that they'd found it cheaper like for like that would be different but to expect them to take it back because they've discovered that s/h is cheaper:cuckoo:

jessops will take it back under no quibble , but its not ethically right to expect them to - the twisted and nasty part of me hopes that they do , then the second hand one turns out to be a lemon :nuts:

How long have you not known that s/h lenses are cheaper:D
 
Once he's got the used lens maybe he'll want to return that cos of the amazing discovery that you can get em cheaper still when they're nicked ;)
