Hi all
Rite this is going to be fairly long as there is a lot of detail to the story. I purchased a Sigma 12-24 about 3 -4 weeks ago from Jessops up in Cardiff, however it was very soft on the left hand side. I posted a few photos on these boards and it was decided that it was defiantly faulty and i should take it back to the shop.
I decide to give it another go, so they ordered me another one in from another store. It arrived a few days later, in a Nikon box (It was a canon fit) and it had all Nikon documents. I was told that there was no worry with this as any warranty would be done with Jessops and not sigma, which is true with the SOG.
I took this other lens and tested it, but it just wasnt as sharp as i hoped, and decided to take it back. They said that they will not be getting any more lenses in and therefore the option i had was to send it away and get it re jigged or had a refund. As i had a fairly good deal on the lens i decided that it would be best to have it sent away. It was booked in on the 20th of August.
Today i received a letter. The letter says
We write with reference to our repair ******* in connection to your Sigma 12-24mm to be carried out under warranty
Unfortunately we must inform you that a detailed examination of your equipment has revealed that the item has failed due to impact damage. As this type of eventuality is not covered by the terms of the manufactures warranty the repairs can only be carried out on a chargeable basis
The cost of repairing your equipment is
Parts : £0.00
Labour £ 82.46
VAT £12.37
Total £94.38
Basically the rest of the letter goes on to state that if i want to go on with the repair i need to return the slip and say yes else no.
Now i am upset. I have phoned my local store and they said they cant do anything at the moment as head office is closed, this was at 5pm so fair enough, but they said that they will phone them tomorrow. Now the lens was used for less than 24 hours, and left the house once. It has not been dropped and there were no marks anywhere on the lens.
So, what options do i have? I really dont want the lens if its been damaged by them, even if its repaired. I purchased a new lens, and was under the impression that it was being sent to sigma to be re jigged, however Jessops have sent it to their repair people who have either damaged it or it has been damaged in transit. Can i just ask for my money back now? Im pretty upset with everything.
