....the ones where staff look like they've just come out of a Christmas parcel....buy one, get Sue/John free..

A bit of a bold statement.."buy any Christmas gift at Jessops and it comes with unlimited free advice from our staff. This means your loved ones get great presents for Christmas and expert help for years to come.

Erm, well that's different from what I've experienced. I wonder whether their staff have now been expertly trained or have recruited staff from other camera shops who know their subject..

If not, then I wonder whether the advertising authority etc. would investigate.

Not knocking those staff who are very knowledgeable at Jessops, but this seems to me to be an inaccurate claim by whoever designed the advert and/or the powers that be

Some of the xmas staff at jessops not experts and thats coming from someone who's a novice and exactly what i thought when i saw the advert again.

If it doesn't say what subject the "expert" advice is in, who knows what we could all learn:lol:

If my local branch is anything to go by, I don't suppose I will learn much about quantum physics, but I bet I could learn a bit about gelling my hair:thumbs:

Just wanna make it clear that I'm not knocking any of the staff in fact, after all it's the company who recruit their staff. Last thing I want this thread to turn into is a witch hunt, which previous threads on this subject have..

It's just the apparent tenacity of Jessops themselves IF the situation is still the same as before, with lack of training/product knowledge etc.

I think the ASA would investigate if any of the advert is misleading in any way...

oh dear, not another Jessops bashing thread.

Whilst I haven't had great experiences with them I can only feel sorry for them as a business. It's a no win situation - they have to employ low wage staff to keep prices down which means they don't get the experts they need or their customers want. However if they pay their staff more to get the people they need then their prices go up and people take their business elsewhere...

I have noticed that a lot of people who slag them off only use them to test equipment anyway, then go and buy online to save the £40 difference.

I have to agree and unfortunately, things can only get worse for businesses like Jessops. The problem is that we all like bargains and despite their huge buying power, the cost of keeping shops open in High Streets and Malls just keeps getting higher and so their prices will also rise.

I admire people for working, especially youngsters who (if they were like me :gag:) found it hard to get out of bed in the morning.

I mean, it's not so much the age demographic, 'cos the staff at my local branch do work hard, but maybe if Jessops invested a lot heavier in training their staff for product knowledge and camera operation then that may not put so many people off.

Knowing the prices they charge, it is a problem for me, especially as I really have to watch my pennies and I'd like to get a lot more for my money. I guess that's only natural.

I guess they have staff overheads and as stated above, rental for shops in shopping malls are astronomical. Depending on who you speak to, figures quoted are between £50,000 and £70,000 per month at the branch in Norwich. If this is true, they have to mark up hugely, to cover rent, pay their staff, electric AND make a profit.

I agree, it's a no win situation, as they're up against the very low internet prices and it saddens me to say this, but I merely use them as a showroom then quite often than not, order it online and sacrifice the localness of returning a faulty item..

However, there are people who are still willing to pay their prices. Either rich, principled or both, especially as we're in a recession more and more people must be tempted by online prices. I'm sure pretty much everybody knows of Google and the vast majority of the country own or have access to a computer..

well if i get a free "sue " she can wash the dishes on xmas day, that would be a help while i go out and take some piccies.

Like most companies promising stuff in the future, it means they are about to go bust!
Get that 0% while you still can!

I've had nothing but good service from my local Jessops. Very knowledgable staff and willing to do a competitive price. And I'll have Stacy, not Sue! :D

Whilst I have no Jessops we have similar and I have to say, whilst I can afford I will comprimise on price for service. Whilst I will not pay top dollar I will give the opportunity to the helpful and knowledgeable shop over the cheapest! Admittedly we don't have the online competition that is available to the UK, but if someone is helpful and willing to meet me I will pay a bit more.....but when I can get things in the US for $200 less than the shops best, what can I do?

i walked into a jessop's yesterday and asked the for a hand grip / strap to fit my 50D and the guy looked funny at me

so i said it is a strap that goes around my hand and fits to the body of the camera ,
he eventually worked out what i wanted and they didnt even stock them

every store i have been to is so bloody small never any decent stock that i would be looking at

went to the manchester , trafford centre 2 weeks back and they had no stock well any decent slr stock
