Jessops Finance

got mine instore when they did the 12 months 0%

So therefore I presume that I can make the order online to reserve the products (and make use of the web discount) for store pickup (you pay when you collect the products) and could then apply for finance while in-store?

Dont want to be a party pooper, Jessops use a subsidery of Barclays for its finance. Even if Jessops do go under i doubt that Barclays will.

If you owe Jessops- it doesn't matter if they did go bust, as a company would buy the debt- and you would owe them...

I don't think this is advisable. If you order online you have agreed to the purchase, if you then try and get finance (not sure you can even do it like that) you could still be refused the finance by the finance company and you would still have to find the money from somewhere.

Yes no problem - just make sure you take some ID with you (needs to have name, address on etc - driving licence, passport) and you know all your bank details and they should be able to process it there and then - I'd strongly advise going in to the shop earlier in the day rather than late afternoon.

Same here :)they used to price match which made it a good deal you do have to make sure that you clear the balance on the buy now pay later or the interest rate is very high

It's very rare that a finance gets accepted. I worked there for 2 years, and made probably 20 applications, 2 of which got accepted.

Even people who were well off got denied.

I think something else that perhaps you don't understand fully was happening. Plenty of people (as the very thread demonstrates) managed to get finance. I got it too (the 12 months 0% scheme a few years ago) with no problem. They do a credit check on you before accepting. As someone who had no previous credit rating (I didn't even own a credit card) and plenty of (student) debt, the only thing going for me was the fact that I had a job and a bank account in the black.

People who are well off are very good at raking up poor credit ratings.

the jessops finance package is now a deposit required and then over 12 months.
not run by barclays anymore different company.

Hope you're right in that Barclays no longer run Jessops finance packages. I had so many problems with them recently even though I had made payment to settle account after using the nothing to pay for 12 months scheme.

Tried to pay by phone which was terrible to say the least. Finally had to make payment by BGC. My bank said they'd got the money, Barclays said they hadn't and tried to charge me hundreds extra! I stood my ground and finally someone there admitted they had got it but it just hadn't gone through their systems!!!

I understand how credit works, I do.

But the point I'm making is that hardly anyone, from all classes/cultures got accepted.

Jessops is part owned by HSBC so I doubt Barlcays has anything to do with it now.

I recently got 12 months interest free finance at jessops for £2400 without any problems, and id say my credit rating is probably fairly average. I ordered online and completed all the forms online but i shouldnt think that would make much difference.

the finance company is someone called v12 finance, not sure if that is a subsidiary of someone else or not though.

I wouldn't like to put money on it. Most of the banks have made a total balls up of things recently, and we had to bail them out. Maybe it doesn't apply to Barclays but they're hardly whiter than white! :suspect:

If you look on jessops website it says who there finance is done through and you can also apply on line for the credit with an almost instant decision if you get the go ahead you print of the paperwork and go down your local store and buy what it is you want on the finance.

when I worked there it was firstly clydesdale finance, and then barclay's finance. it appears they've moved onto someone different

Finance companies are hit and miss.
If you get turned down you can always try again.

V12 turned me down on finance for a bike, i then got accepted for a more expensive bike 2 weeks later.

I applied with both of those companies (initial 30d purchase and then lenses for a safari over 2 years ago) and got accepted both times. Its a great way of spreading the payments or saving over for it over 12 months....

In my store, we have done 7 finance deals in the last 3 weeks, 1 failed, the other 6 sailed through and were accepted.

If the are refused, it is your credit rating that causes it, nothing else (unless it is user error).

What is annoying is comments like this one:

jessops wont last that long

Where you can come up with assumptions like that is a joke. Sorry to spoil your party, but for the foreseeable future, Jessops will be here.

OP, you go and make your purchase/application confident that if you qualify for credit, your finance application should go through.

Paul.

I've had no problems with credit and haven't got a credit card to get my rating up and still live at home with parents. You should have no problems, gd luck with your purchase

I would stay away from V12 Finance if at all possible. I had the misfortune of dealing with them in November just gone when I was buying a new computer. I found their call centre staff extremely rude and arrogant. One woman who I spoke to had the attitude that you were below her because you chose to take out finance... "I can afford to pay for everything in cash... I don't need finance..." she told me, an attitude which ****ed me off. So I asked her back... "Do you have a mortgage?", to which she replied yes... to which I replied "Then you can't afford to pay for everything in cash can you!"

A bit silly in hindsight perhaps, but she just rubbed me up the wrong way. When I tried to log a complaint about her, her work mates refused to pass me on to her Team Leader.

They are also the most expensive finance company that I have dealt with. They charge you £45 alone for just taking out the finance, and the final fees for early payment consists to two things, a percentage of the final price, rather then a fixed price, and also another fixed price fee! So the more expensive the item, the more you get charged to settle early.

Anyway, I cancelled the agreement and initially they refused to refund the £45 saying it was non refundable, even if you cancel the order. I fought and won though, in the end they refunded every penny!

Paid in cash in the end.
