Decided I needed a decent tripod as the old one I had wouldn't support my 400mm. I was thinking Manfrotto 190 XPROB but after doing some serious online shopping found Jessops were doing the Giotto MT9361B, which is pretty much the same spec, for £89, with Manfrotto 494RC2 for £39. I'd already got a 10% online discount code for them for tripods so this made the total £115.20.

I ordered online with the collect in store option as there was an 8-10 day wait for delivery but the store at Bluewater had them in stock (the only store in Kent that did).

5 minutes later I had a phone call from the store explaining they only ones they had were ex display. I asked if I would get any discount (not mentioning the 10% I already had got already). I heard her talk to the manager thn say "Yes, we can give you 10%".

When I went to collect I was served by the manager. He collected my boxes and then went to his till. "That will be £115.20 please," he said. I pointed out I had been promised 10% discount as they were ex display. "No problem" he said. "That will be £109.44."

"No," said I. "That's only 5% and you said 10%."

"Oh, sorry," he said. "The assisstant got it wrong it should have been 5% but I will let you have 10%."

So I ended up only paying £103.68 . What a nice man and what customer service. Thats approximately £40 less than anywhere else I tried.

Not bad, nice to see they are selling the stock they have and not just being awkward.

Nice to hear nice things again about Jessops

Saying that I have had a decent service with everything I have ordered over Christmas

Jessops really seem to have turned the corner in the past 6 months or so. A lot more knowledgeable staff, and a much wider range of products, at least in the revamped stores down here.

That sounds like a cracking result Alex from the local store. I have the 190XPROB and have nothing but praise for it.

Enjoy the purchase.

I have to agree that their CS has improved a lot; just before Christmas I picked up a mispriced Giotto ballhead for about half the recommended price. It scanned at full price but when I pointed out the marked price, the guy just entered something into the computer and gave it to me as advertised.

In the past, I found that they generally didn't care about helping the customer - now that seems to be number one with them.
