I was just looking at the price of a D200 on jessops website, £749 for the body.

they have an enthusiasts kit which takes the price to £1016.97, I thought it'll be a decent lens and a case for the camera.

it's a 1gb CF card, a jessops brand tripod and a lowepro slingshot 100aw bag for the bargain price of £266.98:lol:

how are jessops still in business

Jessops have gave me some really great deals on camera equipment recently so I'm really happy with them. You just need to shop around & get them to price match

OR - you can pay £1,106.94 for D200 & 18-70 lens.

Definately something odd there!

They have always been ott for acccessories, but can be good for cameras.

Sometimes my local Jessops can be really great, at other times their prices are laughable. Like any modern day wised up punter, it always pays to check around on prices.

A friend of mine recently walked into the local shop and bought a new lens, he's really happy with the service. Didn't have the heart to tell him he could have saved at least 25% by just going on the net and asking for a price match, no point on when he's already bought it.

:agree: price match, haggle and they come good.
But you do have to haggle be hard faced... :D

About two weeks ago the Lowepro Slingshot 200AW was £54.99 marked on shelf and also on website. Funny thing was that the Lowepro Slingshot 100AW was and still is £69.99

Went in to get a 200AW and the guy changed it on the spot to £79.99 and charged me this saying it was an error with the ticket (illegal - he can only refuse the sale if I don't accept the change in displayed price).

Checked out and printed it on their website as it was advertised at £54.99 and a refund now agreed :D Result me thinks.

It's back to its normal price again though.

gman if you don't accept the change in price then it's you who are refusing the sale, the shop does not have to sell you anything they don't want to right up to the moment the cash changes hands. Personally I'd have walked away and bought the bag elsewhere regardless.

that's expensive. it wasn't long ago they had them for £27.99 on the website

Perhaps my mistake as it was about eight years ago but at least back then a shop had to sell the product at the advertised price but they could also refuse to sell the product.

My not accepting the price change is not the same thing as the sale being refused, they are not allowed to change the price at the point of sale (especially after ringing it through the till). Changing the price changes the circumstances, the decision on the sale or not is based on the advertised price before a change of price occurs. Anyway, doesn't really matter, it's kinda splitting hairs and all and was a long time ago when I was taught the law on this and things could have changed! :)

I haven't bought a magazine for a while, but when I got t=my D80, nifty fifty and Siggy 30mm the cheapest prices I could find were using Jessops's 'price match this mag' voucher. Cheery pick the best prices (often lower than internet) and keep the security of dealing with a RL shop to boot.

I must admit I'm a bit of a Jessops Junkie which I put down to lack of patience - something which probably won't do me any favours in photography :( although my recent Ebay purchasing is becoming quite extreme so I am getting better :D

Jessops sucks badly. I don't know how come these guys are still around, to be honest. It's not even that the people I've met there are the less competent camera folks I've found - but the prices are just sick.

I haven't bought anything (camera-wise) in any other way than online for a few years. And I'll stick to that. :)

I had a similar method of purchase, funnily enough with a D80 and 18-70 plus bag and u/v with our local Jessops and having shown them a mag with their slogan of offering price match, they in fact bettered it by a not unreasonable amount. So I`m well pleased with old Jessops. They are only a few miles away too which is worth a few quid extra when things go wrong.

Yep, Jessops have become unbelieveably expensive, even with cameras and lenses. Used to be for just accessories, but the whole lot now.

Very unlikely I could justify buying from them, but they do apparently price match, but only it seems, when they feel like it..

My local Jessops are ok, only if you know what your talking about as they sure dont!

i got Jessops to knock £75 off the price of my 24-105 without too much hassle, i think they price their stock to be haggled lol.

I asked Jessops in Newcastle to Price match on a 400D with 17-85 IS lens, they wouldn't budge and the Manager stated that its company policy not to price match and Staff (including management) do not have the ability to dicount stock prices.

So as you can imagine, I left the store and ordered from AJPurdy.

I guess it depends which store you go to as to whether the manager is prepared to budge, or hide behind the "Company Policy" statement!!!

My local Jessops wanted £435 for a 400D kit.

I bought one from a dealer on ebay for £335. When it arrived I discovered I'd bought it from Jessops.

All the receipts and paperworik were on their headed paper.

Whenm it didn't work I had to phone Jessops head office to arrange a replacement.

How can they justify that kind of price difference?

I should add I wasn't too impressed with the local stores service or product knowledge either.

On their company website they had advertised a 1gb (iirc) sd card for my sons camera for £1.79 so I went into the local store, they'd never heard of it.

I think a lot of these 'mistakes' are a bid to get you into the store.

Jessops are usually quite useless, we've got a Jacobs in Nottingham, and they're far better if you need something off the high street. The Jessops here advertise price matching, but won't do it on the internet. They've already shut their smaller store here, and barely deserve the one they've got.

I reckon is because of the higher overheads, if you buy from Jessops in the high street

Been into Jessops today to see what their best price was for:

Canon 100-400
Cannon 24-105
Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro

Total price came to £2069.97
They gave me a total discount of £70 with nothing of the 100-400, a bit pants I thought

Jessops seem to be lost, dont they? Shame really because they've been consistently reasdonable in the past.

I think a big problem for them and a wide variety of retailers is they've become showrooms for the internet.

If you look through the photography section on ebay I bet 70% of the listings are from hong kong so Jessops and the like have become showrooms for them.

I presume the price I quoted in the 1st post for the accessories was a mistake, 1GB CF cards are under £10 now, a Jessops tripod and a cheap bag, can't be worth more than £70 for the lot
