Yes
Just noticed Jessops are offering (via Quidco) 5% off all items with code QUIDCOFIVE (except DSLR's & lenses) and an additional 8% cashback until 10th Dec.

Might be useful to someone ;)

PS: I think the 8% cashback is on everything, inc DSLR & Lenses, exc VAT

That's a pretty good deal...ta!

The above code does not work for Dslr cameras as i just tried it so i'm sure it's the same exception as (except DSLR's & lenses). But works for Flash guns etc

b****r. I bought an SB900 from Harrogate on Saturday.
I really should look here more often. :bang:
Not sure how they can afford to do it though. I haggled to get the price down and he showed me on his screen that his margin was 80p!!
Again....b****r.....:bang:

You telling me that Jessops only make 80p on a SB900, well if they do then expect them to be the next company going into administration.

Most goods probably have like a 20 to 40 % markup on cost price if not more, You think at 8% or 5 discount they make a loss.

Look at this

Jessops SanDisk Extreme III 4GB SD HC Memory Card @ 31.00 20MB/ sec

Play.com SanDisk Extreme III 4GB SD HC Memory Card @ 14.99 20MB/ sec
SanDisk Extreme III 4GB SD HC Memory Card @ 17.49 30MB/ sec

Now i could buy from Play and sell cheaper then 31 and still profit and i've not even gone to a wholesaler. Just from Retail

I was as shocked as you. I'm in business myself and couldn't believe it. But I saw the buying in price and selling price. So, unless he can change those figures fast with a customer in front of him...

Kev.

He probably showed you the buying in price for one SB900, I'd be very surprised if individual managers knew the buy in price of bulk bought products.

I really don't believe there's next to no markup on photography gear, a digital camera is a PC with a sensor in it a small LCD and a some mechanical components.

If they can build a basic DSLR to retail at £399 I can't see how a D3s can cost much more, when you consider a top end laptop is £1000 cameras look really expensive

There is typically 30%-40% margin on retail products however don't feel like you're being ripped off as this has to pay for all of the operating costs of the retailer (rent, wages, distribution, marketing etc) and a realistic EBIT is going to be 3%-10% which isn't a lot of profit at the end of the day, especially when this figure is before tax.

Electrical items are unfortunately low margin products; 10%-20% is not uncommon, especially since the rise of internet retailers, but an 80p profit on a £300 flash is less than 1% margin after VAT which is pretty unlikely - unless they weren't declaring VAT (very naughty) or were particularly desperate to release some cashflow (cash investment into stock = less cash to run the business with).

The other option is that their system had some pricing built in - I know some retailers load a number of pricing bands into their systems to allow managers to negotiate within a limit that's been set by the buyers at head office. So that 80p might not have been reflecting the true cost price but maybe something like a cost+5% lowest price allowed.

Can anyone tell what I do for a living? ;)

I don't think you'll be getting 5% and 8%......

It would make you wonder how I managed to get £35 each off the ones I bought from them :naughty:

you get 5% discount at the checkout with the quidco code
then quidco pay you back the other 8%
i ordered my dslr via quidco (to collect in store) and they will pay me £44.63 (sadly i only got the normal quidco rate which i think was 4%)
i couldnt use the 5% as its not validon dslr's but you do put that code in at checkout iyswim ( have done it before )

I think the prices that Jessops staff have in front of them is the absolute lowest that they can sell that product.

I very much doubt that is the cost price as they claim, otherwise they wouldn't be in business. Just imagine if they looked on their in store system at the real cost price and a customer haggled down to it. It just wouldn't be worth selling anything, so I reckon it has the margin already built in..

Just my 2p worth

Your lucky you can get Jessops staff to talk to you when you go into one of their retail outlets.

Twice I've been into one, and left standing at the POS equipment whilst the staff have been more interested in chatting amongst themselves behind the counter!

I think that's more of a reason for them that they'll go pop than buying product to sell at a profit! They need staff to sell it, for any profit!

an 8% reduction on a flashgun from Jessops would still be way over the price you would for it online

Strictly speaking about the SB900, That's simply not true.

SB900 is priced at £319 everywhere, including (save the penny) from Onestop Digital in Hong Kong.

Using the discounts, you can then get it for £299, the cheapest on the list, and the cheapest on Google shopping as well.

Jacobs do have it a fiver cheaper, but they don't have any stock.

There's probably some obscure shop where you can buy it cheaper, but from all the major suppliers, Jessops are bang on the money with the SB900

I used the Quidco Jessops cashback on Canon 7D and it worked.
You have to be a bit smart (or lucky) though - I did this with a bundle deal of 7D, Compact Flash card and 430EX.
Sign up with Quidco. Order online to pick up in store. When you get to store ask to swop something in the bundle (I upgraded the 4gb card to 8Gb).
This way the have to enter the values in manually, so it seems to go through as a regular sale (well at least it did for me)!
It may of been a bit of luck in the way mine happened so I cant guarantee it will work!
Good luck

Anyone else know if quidco works as i'm thinking of spending like £1000 on a camera and will probably do a pickup instore be good to get something back.

gmehje did you get 4% or 8% back? Although i know quidco can be a bit hit and miss, Suppose if it works then fine and if it does not you've not lost anything
