Hi

I finally thought I would take the plunge today and treat myself to a 40D, I looked on line and although I found it cheaper elsewhere I decided to use the code on camerapricebuster and buy online at jessops and use the collect at store option.

The camera was £780, but with the discount code it brought it down to £750, to make it even more appealing I was going to make use of the interest free credit that they offered.

I trundled down to my local Jessops at lunchtime with all the required paperwork, and there is was waiting for me. First problem, it was the display model, obviosuly the box had been opened but thought that was ok, then the envelop where the manuals and warranty was had been ripped open and the battery was used, was starting to think this was pushing it, but still wanted it. Then we got to the credit agreement, this is with Clydesdale Bank, for once I read the small print, you can repay the loan back in full at the end of 12 months, but you have to pay a £30 admin fee. So although that is interest free a admin fee means it actually costs 4%.

Needless to say I walked out and have ordered it online from Cameraworld who were very helpful and it will be with me tomorrow.

I checked the smallprint on Warehouse express who also offer a 12month interest free credit with Clydesdale Bank and they don;t charge the £30. I have previously stuck up for Jessops in the past, but this is the last time I will even think about using them.

On a positive note I have a 40D on order :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot::woot:

Thats very bad service :( and doesnt help Jessops name! Glad you included that last bit about Warehouse Express as I am tempted to use their credit and was just thinking I would have to look out for that :p

The only problem with Warehouse Express was they didn;t have stock, but are expecting some later this week.

Thanks for the heads up there Rob. I wonder how many people wouldn't notice that nice little £30 surcharge? I have to say I think that's very bad from Jessops. Surely interest free should mean exactly that, not interest free apart from a 4% charge at the end of the term :bat:

Oh and congrats on your new purchase btw :woot:  :D

They didnt charge the £30 admin when I got it from there? (Jessops)
Are you sure you read it right?
Theyre using the same finance packages from the same bank?

I know there's an admin fee if you pay it back early once you go over the 12 months.

What I mean is...You can pay the amount back within the first 12 months, no interest, no fee.
Once the clock ticks over 12 months, you automatically enter into a monthly repayment financial agreement, which lasts for 36 months (usually).
If you pay THIS agreement off before the 36 months, then you get charged.

Thats how my credit agreement was with Jessops/Clydesdale.

When I bought my 350D from them the terms were pay before the end of the 12 months and pay nothing extra. I questioned it with the sales assistant and was told it was a new thing that had been brought in as most credit agreements had an acceptance / admin fee.

Ahhh I never knew that...that sucks!

a little off topic, but WE have not been able to fulfill a singkle order of mine in full lately:
1. No batteries for 1Ds - chased, complained and whinged and finally cancelled order.
2. No mkIII's - chased, complained and whinged and finally cancelled order.
3. No ND 8 grads of any kind. Again, whinged, complained and cancelled order.
4. No hoods for 50mm 1.4. Finally got around to sorting this commitment i made to myslf over a year ago..... Ordered last week and familiar ' We do not have your item in stock ' email arrives. This one i'm letting slide as i've waiting a while, a while longer wont hurt.
5. No photo cyan ink.................... starting to run really low on patience now. Are they having problems????

Dunno Jonny, but I emailed them last night asking if I could still get cashback if I purchased with intrest free and have heard nothing :(

You can do as all you need is a receipt to claim from canon and they provide that for you.
