Hey,
Have just got a jessops 360afd for my camera but i have run into a problem. I cannot get the flash to fire at all when connected to my D3000's hotshoe. The flash works fine when the button is clicked to test on the flash unit but will not work in sync with my camera.

Is there anything i could be doing wrong, used the program mode on my camera to try flash and also tried manual mode on camera. Flash wise i have tried both M and TTL, before anyone asks as well the slave switch on flash is put to off.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Is the switched marked "S" and "Off" set to Off? If not, set it to Off.

I had exactly the same problem with a 360afd and my Canon 50D - mine was down to the flash not connecting in the hot shoe correctly.

Once I unscrewed it and then reconnected it worked fine. If memory serves (I'm at work at the minute so I can't check) there is an orange light that comes on at the back of then 360afd when proper connection is made?

Hmmm... I can't think there is any else you should be doing your end.

I do have this flash, but no Nikon bodies to try it on at the moment!

Unscrew as in take the flash unit apart ? or unscrew as in unscrew from hotshoe ?. If its unscrew from hotshoe and then put back then tried that all ready. I think you could be right with orrange lights as theres a red one to show flash is charged and then another light on the other side to show its ready but that light has never come on.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry - unscrew as in unscrew & remove from hotshoe.

It may be tempremental with its connection to the hotshoe.

This may sound silly but.....are you sure its the correct hot shoe fitment for a Nikon?

Jessops sell three variants, Nikon, Canon and Sony so I assume the hotshoe is a different fit. I have got the sony version and it fires fine

Ye checked the pins on the jessops flash gun and the pins are in the same order as the ones on my D3000.

Have a look at this thread, sounds like the same problem. Then look at reply 17.

and sorry in advance if you have this the right way round !!!!!!

ye im 100% sure that its the right way as the screen is facing me behind the camera and also the red sensor at the front is facing towards the lens.

I bought one of those for a Canon and the guy in Jessops actually suggested that of the TTL light did not come on when the shutter button was half depressed I should take it back and they would exchange it. Sort of insinuated that there was a problem with some of them.

Ahhh thanks for the info, problem is this is a very late christmas/ early birthday present so haven't got the receipt for it. Anyone have any idea on jessops return policy ? will they allow me to trade this for another ?

I would get in touch with whoever bought it and see if they had the receipt. If not, take it into Jessops and explain the situation. Get them to check it on one of the display cameras. Can't do any harm. At worst they can only say no. May be worth taking your camera in and see if they can check that with another flash.

Ye gonna try and get receipt, will aim to be served by someone who desnt look very intrested that way i may get a replacement flash without it

I'd reckon Andy's spot-on, it'll be on slave. When it's on slave the pin on the botton of the flash is disabled, so it can't receive a triggering signal from the camera's hotshoe.

Try popping the onboard flash on your camera up and taking a shot with the 360AFD nearby and switched on. If it flashes then that's your problem....

Im 100% sure the slave is on off, as at the bottom there is On & off and then S and Off and the 2nd is one off. Also is this flash supposed to when in slave mode also flash if the onboard flash goes off ? as at the moment it isent doing that neither.

Sorry to bring up this old thread but I have exactly the same problem - flash will ONLY go off if the Test button is pressed, not if connected directly to my D80 or as a slave.
Was there any resolution to this issue?

TIA,
Texy

Yep, Took it into Jessops were the man on the counter give it a quick test with both my camera and one of theres and then put new batteries in the flash and repeated it and was still not working so he gave me a new flash. Had no receipt for this so very happy with outcome.

I bought this one 2nd hand so don't have the receipt either. I guess I,d be a bit dishonest to try my luck at Jessops:shrug:
