Best wishes with your new job - hope everything goes tickety.

<heh, a lady in passing who spotted me with a tripod has asked me to some portraits of her daughter... I've bottled it once (tho I've sick right now> and have said I will do it next week if I'm a little more well - but ooooooooooooooh... am bricking it  Have explained I have never done people shots, ya know, under pressure - I think she thinks I'm a photographer - ha, bless! <so not :suspect: > One shot... just one good shot... that's what I need to do... please goddesses of my Sony... ONE SHOT with a bit of bokeh!>

Anyhoo - have the BEST day at your new job <tho I have a feeling that MrPB will excel at whatever he does ;)> and we'll look forward to seeing shots of yer baby girl next week.

Take care Pete and Clan.

3,5,6,7 what a cutie.....lovely pictures

What lens did you use?

trying to save for some new glass.....there soooooooooo expensive...lol

any news on my adoption? wife agreed yet?....lol

Gary

Hi Gary,

3,5 where taken with Nikon 70-200 2.8

6 with Nikon 24-70 2.8

and 7 with Panasonic 20mm 1.7 on a GF1

Good lenses are pricey, most people start with a 50mm 1.8 for their first quality lens and it's a slippery slope from there. The fact is that they do generally hold their value pretty well so while the camera halves in value after two years, if you buy a lens second hand for a fair price you are unlikely to lose much if you chose to sell it later.

Working on the adoption but might struggle for room, Number 1 shows all the family and we all live in a two bedroom semi.

:crowded: :exit:

haha thanks for that, I think it is David Hobby that said taking photos is about learning tricks and repeating them. You start, for example, by taking a portrait in a sunny day in the shade of a tree with a fast 50mm lens. You get comfortable with that so you know you can do that and do it well. You then learn, for example, to light a portrait with one off camera flash and an umbrella in front of a white background, then a black background, then add more lights. Eventually you have a bag of tricks to choose from and it's easy to choose one for each occasion.

I'm sure you'll be fine, chose one of the tricks you already know and get a couple of safe ones before using the little girl as a guinea pig to learn new tricks.

Good luck!

Thanks Pete... no tricks up my sleeve (if only) - but she wants to be in a bluebell wood (we're apparently still blooming here)... so between sneezes and my 50mm (no external lighting) - I'll do something... she's apparently a stunning curly mopped 5 year old, trinklet child... prolly be a super model so... will let you know how I get on. Thanks you and no worries :D

Come on! Don't put yourself down, I have seen your work and you have a very good eye for composition, that's the hard bit done.

Bluebells are lovely and all you need is a bit of shade in a sunny day or an overcast sky for lovely natural light.

I look forward to the results...

I have the 50mm f1.8 great little lens, I need something a bit wider, I used the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 and was great (but only hired it) so I am after something wide..also considering the GF1 as a little walkabout camera!!!

thanks for the help ;-)

Ah Pete... Jessica's perfect! Love number 2 - made me smile so big.

Claudia is gorgeous ... she's so...naturally stunning, ya know, no effort required there at all.

Love the one of Henry too - the boys will be the best big brothers a wee sister could ask for.

Beautiful family :D

Would you do one please, of you and Jessica so there's a comparison shot of when she was teeny tiny in your hands around her half yearly marker. <heh, personal requests now... <bit cheeky> but hey, we got a group hug shot - yay, so, in for a penny, in for a pound!)

Hope the new job is going well and all is well with Christian too...

Thanks Naomi,

I think that is a great idea although she's a big girl now so not sure she would fit on my arm now. It'll have to be a weekend project so I'll see if I can get the time to set up the black background (it needs ironing!).

Ah Pete... I wish I had a dictionary of superlatives to use... but I'd still come back to precious and beautiful. Heh - yep, I reckon she'd be a handfull and a half now - gotta say tho - they grow up so quickly, adore her whilst she's still so tiny.

It's funny, you're number 3 photo reminds me of both my little boys - ha, 18+ years ago now - yet seeing Jessica in her all-in-one brought back so many memories of how much fun it was as they started pulling up and sliding around on their newly found feet. Oh but ooooooh, I'm reminded of the bumped heads too on the wooden floors. Bless them.

Again tho - it's the B&W that draws me in - your shots have such a quality about them (of course, having the sweet perfection of a home-grown model makes it easier ;) )- you can feel them, not just see them, there's a depth there - tho that prolly doesn't make sense or mebbe it does <I know what I mean :cuckoo:> Love the yummy bokeh too - but I know you've seen now, I'm quite big on bokeh.

Superb Pete... looking forward to next week.

Best wishes to you and yours, hope the new job is going well. x

Week 36 and I feel they are getting a bit similar, I should maybe limit myself to a macro lens or a wide angle next week to force myself to get something different...

Thanks Gary, she's actually getting a lot harder to pose, as she now crawls towards me and tries to grab the camera. Clearly a photographer in the making...

ahhh... just look at number 5

she is so darling!

LOVE number 2 - such happy photos, Claudia's smile is infectious tho I was a little concerned for Henry's viewpoint! :D

<heh, my little fella has just gone through the photos with me... he says "she's a cute kid, she's a LEDGE"

in boy speaky... Jessica's a legend... the highest possible praise from a 14 year old! ;) >

Top stuff again Pete, what if we challenge you to let her take her first shot of you!

Oh Pete - they are all so wonderful...

this one tho... this one made me smile so big

thank you so much for sharing your family with us - Jessica will love this thread when she is older - kids love to look back at when they were wee - this thread is very special.

Take care you and yours x

Thanks Naomi, all the photos are happening at the weekend at the moment but I am still enjoying it!

Top stuff again Pete, what if we challenge you to let her take her first shot of you!

Thanks Tom, that might mean quite a lot of slobber on my camera.

:)

Gosh, isn't Henry quite the young man now - what a difference in 6 months, he's becoming a little man now... love Christians face in number 3 - that chap has so much character - fabulous to see! My fave this week is MaMaC and J in number 6 - that's so happy.

Which lens were you using for 2 and 3? Did you blur the background more - in number 3 the kids stand out so crystal clear - love that.

Now... gonna do my request for a shot <I know I know, you didn't ask for requests but hey!> ... J with an icecream cone! ;)

btw - excellent on the TakeThat FB Auction for the tickets - well done you guys!

Take care you and yours Pete x
