Jenny's Oktoberfest Challenge - Final shot added

The bracken is stunning against the black.

Hi Jenny

October sunrise...both shots are just beautiful...love the muted colors...very atmospheric

The cone shot & fern shot are great...love the simplicity of the colors , the detail in the cone & the background colors of the same...

jenny...i love the colour and texture of the cone... ..

Thanks, Kev. I was quite pleased with the cone.

Like em both Jenny, good colour and composition

Thanks, Paulie.

me too liking them both... they just scream 'AUTUMN' at me

Thanks, Leigh. Yes, Autumn provides a lot of photogenicsubjects.

The bracken is stunning against the black.

Thanks, Nicky. I was a bit annoyed that I did not get a better DOF.

I had another go at the birds yesterday. This time I left the window closed and shot through the glass (not particularly recommended - they are a both soft). Shooting through the open window the other day just spooked them. With this 60mm lens, it is necessary to be really close.

I think this guy/gal is a marsh tit, but he could well be a willow tit as they are very similar.

Next the great tit.

These are both cropped. The 60mm is really not cut out for bird photography :(

C & C very welcome.

Jenny

Love the second one here. Great framing and texture

While having my lunch in the kitchen yesterday, I set up the camera on the window sill so that I could snap anything that landed on the bird table with my remote.

This robin did not want to get into the correct position, but I snapped him anyway. Pity the sunlight was so strong behind.

I had been wondering why the branch I laid over the bird table kept moving. I found out why!

Not a serious photo but I thought I would post it anyway :D:D:D I love his pink feet!

Glorious day today, so I had a good prowl round the garden for things to shoot. I could not be bothered to get the tripod out. I did not realise how shaky my hands are until I took up photography.

Here are a couple of today's offerings...

C & C very much appreciated.

Another good batch of shots Jenny
Liking the Robin, and the Plane tree fruit. The little orange berries kinda look like mini pumpkins :) and depending on your pp skills, some creative "carving" would look fun.

wow I missed so many shots.... don't know where to start :-)

Some stunningly sharp and detailed shots....

I really like the green leaves and your day 10 autumn shots.......

#1 on day 13 of the leaf is fantastic. Simple... but i love it. Looks like you've got the very best out of the 60mm too with the bird shots - spot on. I hate commenting on exposure and colours when i'm viewing at work as my monitor is rubbish and they look different when i get home and view there... but could the robin do with a bit of a lift in exposure? Actually.. just read what you put :bonk:

jenny...i love the robin... its great to see part of a bird, not the whole.

Thanks, Kev. I managed to get this one quite sharp. Pity about the lighting.

Some fantastic colours and textures in these jenny and the birds are coming along a treat.

Thanks, Yv, it is a colourful time of year.

Love that Robin shot Jenny - superb! Super sharp too.

Thanks, Dave. Surprisingly sharp considering it was through the double glazing.

Thanks, Paulie. They do look a bit like mini pumpkins but they are very small.

Thanks, Martin. I am taking as many as I can in case my motivation dries up!

Thanks, Leigh. Yes, I would not normally choose those lighting conditions with bright sunlight behind the robin.

Like the first leaf shot, nice details

Thanks, Julian. I was pleased with the detail.

I decided to get a shot of some primula that have been flowering all year, even after the frost these last couple of nights. I cannot actually recall when they were not flowering. The colour is so vibrant.

I could not decide which of these I prefer.

While I was taking these shots, I heard a thump on the window. We regularly get birds hitting the window here. We are surrounded by trees and apparently they see the reflections of the trees in the window and try to fly into them. Lots of blackbirds do this but we've also had goldcrest, willow warbler, pigeons, a pheasant and even a sparrowhawk!

Today it was my favourite small bird, a long-tailed tit. Now these birds are really shy and trying to get a photo is very difficult. It certainly helps when they are a bit stunned after hitting the window! I had to keep an eye on it until it recovered in case any of the predators tried to attack. I just happened to have my camera handy. I tried taking photos from slightly different angles, so I am posting 3 of them.

I am happy to say he recovered and flew off after about 10 minutes. I hope he is okay. He will probably have a very sore head.

C & C very welcome.

Love the second primula Jenny; Great vibrant colour. And the little bird is just cute :)

This is bad... I am agreeing with him (points to answer above) a lot this morning... Second primula is wonderful... and first shot of the tit for me...

All lovely and sharp....

Normally this is a great time of year for fungi, but we have not had much rain recently. I think the fungi are just waiting for the next heavy rain and they will be springing up all over the place. In the meantime, I found this one which I believe is a trooping funnel, but it was not actually in a troop, just all on its own.

I tried arty shots of it, but they did not work out. This is the best I could manage.

Whoa there`s some serious texture in that fella, lovely shot Jenny.

Looks good....

Feels a bit lacking in contrast maybe if I was being very critical...

Jenny...loving the little tit ...you've captured a great angle.there.. ..as for the shroom ...I'm becoming less of a fungi. Interesting shape yes. Great detail overall...just not floating my boat for some reason...love your attention to detail though with dof

Jenny, loving the long tailed tit shot - super detail you've captured there. Very well done!

Thanks, Dave. They are normally so hyperactive, it is difficult to get decent shots of them.

Hi Jenny....

both the primula shots are beautiful....wonderful colors against the black

Simply superb...the longtailed tit close-ups.... brilliant

Thanks, Lynne. Yes, the primula are really very colourful, aren't they?

October is always a bit of a busy month for us, so it has been difficult to find time for this challenge. Anyway, on Friday I had a spare 10 minutes to spend in the garden with my camera. However, the light was really not very good. This is what I managed...

This is a wild rose that grows along our garden fence. Quite colourful, really.

Next I found a couple of very dozy bees crawling over the heather. I did not have time to get my flash and these are handheld. The best I could do in the circumstances.

Thanks, Kev. I had to take them at ISO 1600, so a bit of flash would have helped to get a better DOF.

Put my bee to shame.....
No, I don't think so.

Wonderful shots :clap::clap::clap:
Many thanks, Martin.

Wow
the Bees are amazing

Thanks, Paulie.

ooooo...thats high isn't it...i amend my words to read..very skillful in that low lit situation..

Since so many of you have been shooting wood, I thought I may as well get on the bandwagon.

Yesterday was tree experiment day. I was trying to get some more unusual shots but they may not be everyone's cup of tea. Not enough DOF in the first one.
