Jenny's April Flower Challenge

Hiya Jenny, I really like the high key rhodedendron, the colour of the pink against the white background really works, it stands out very well, if anything maybe a slightly wider view, but it doesn't take anything away from the shot.

Todays weather has certainly been interesting here too, full of rain and high winds. I like the Azalea shot, very nice colours and dof.

Thanks, Michael. It was my first attempt at high key. I don't really have much lighting kit.

I have been wanting to capture the azalea for a while, but had to wait until it opened up a bit more. It should be beautiful in about a weeks time (too late for my challenge).

There were various things that I wanted to try to achieve with this challenge. Rather than just close-up shots, I wanted some wider shots showing lots of flowers and the animals who live among them.

Well, the weather has been against me much of the time but today was the best weather we have had for a while so I went out snapping. Today I am going to post extra to make up for the lost opportunities of the last few weeks.

Firstly, another close-up. We have hundreds (maybe thousands) of Dog Violets. They are so pretty. I really wanted to take a shot of a clump of violets but that did not work out so here is a close-up instead.

Next, the bluebells are really disappointing this year. There are probably only about half the usual number. They started to flower in mid-March but stopped when the weather changed back to winter. They don't seem to have recovered. This is the best wide bluebell shot I could manage.

Finally, those animal shots. There are lots of pheasants around at the moment and their colours are brilliant.

While I was out with the camera, I came across 2 muntjacs. Sadly, I had my landscape lens on so I could not zoom in closer. This photo shows one of them. The other is behind the big tree on the right!

None of these are brilliant shots, but the best I could do in the time I had available and it was very windy.

Congratulations on reaching the end of the challenge Jenny, you've done really so very well and you should be proud   it's never easy to maintain a photo each and every day and to keep the standard as consistently high that you have

I bet it's a great relieve, just be glad that a POTD challenge hasn't become a total addiction for you like it has for me, but it's the support you get on the likes of TP that can be a massive support to keep you going

Wonderful set of photos Jenny and well done on completing your challenge! You have inspired me to go and take more photos of flowers when the rain eases and the sun peeks through a little more :) you've done a great job in this awful weather!

Enjoyed looking at your challenge progress. Now, please start another.

Hi Jenny, well done on the completion of your challenge. You have done really well and it has been a pleasure to follow. Really like the dog violet close up, a cracker to end on.

Thanks, Michael. I really appreciated your support. Yes, I was fairly pleased with the Dog Violet.

Thanks for your comment, Shahin. Flowers are lovely subjects but it really does depend on the weather. Good luck with your flower photos.

LOL Zulfi, I could not manage another month! However I am planning to continue to take more flower photos this summer, without the pressure of one per day. I am pleased that you enjoyed looking. Many thanks.

I'm loving your latest images Jenny.
The detail and lighting is great.
Why didn't I see some of these in last months POTY instead of here!

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your comments. I actually remembered that the April POTY theme was floral about half way through the month. So, I held one image back from my challenge (one of the best, I thought) to enter into the competition. I did not get a single vote :shake:

Not good for the self confidence so I guess that is the end of POTY for me!
