JD's 52 For 2010 Week 2, Poetry.

I wish I'd used a wider aperture to throw the background out a bit more, there's no going back with film though.

Does using film mean your legs stop working so you can't go back and reshoot?

Thats a bit steep isn't it Lee?
Are those bikes going to be there in that position in those conditions just so JD can try it with a wider aperture?

Does using film mean your legs stop working so you can't go back and reshoot?

No, but as Merv has said, I'm not going to get the same light, bikes or the reflection.

What I originally meant was that because I was shooting film I wasn't aware at the time that I needed a wider aperture to throw the background further out. No,actually I stand by my previous statement.

Secondly, it's only a 52. In the long and the short of it, it doesn't matter very much at all. Have some manners and next time, if you can't either say something constructive or slightly more pleasant, please don't say anything.

Week 2. Poem/Poetry.

I've made an effort at this one. Well, slightly more thought went into this than last weeks.
I found a poem and then shot something to fit it, IMO. Shot today with my TZ6, while on my way from Newry to Newcastle. This house is in Hilltown. I had a couple more derelict houses in mind but this suits better.

Abandoned Houses by Dolores Monet.

empty houses gone to seed
empty kitchens with no one to feed
where once was laughter, spiders spin
forgotten dreams ... an off key song
no cat in the window... everyone's gone
where sheets once danced on a line
the tire swing replaced by poison vine
wildflowers where the roses grew
where is the family that loved and knew
where sunlight painted a bright design
floors once swept now warped with time
the slap of a screen door, the shout of a child
little secrets and presents piled
but daffodils still bloom in spring
robins, wrens, and bluebirds sing
do ghosts knit sweaters or answer the phone
do ghosts light candles when they are alone
abandoned houses, forgotten lives
the house sits empty, nobody's home

As usual mate, great Urbex location, can't help feeling it's just a touch too dark. Certainly is atmospheric though and the poem fits it well too :)

I actually like the darkness of it - really adds to the atmosphere.
Some nice details in there like the grass growing on the roof. Not sure about the TV aerial on the chimney though - just looks a little out of place and spoils the mood a bit.

It's such a shame to see a beautiful house like that left to fall apart, but looks like it served you well for the theme.

really like the processing on the photo... really add's to the feel of the poem

A very moody shot - I like the exposure as it is - good job!
