Day 317. "Flyday" The 13th??

A Macro!!

Decided to dust the cobwebs off the macro lens and give it a whirl this morning. It's a bit cold for flies etc which is a good thing, was able to get this with minimum focus distance and a Raynox 250 on the front. Was a wee tiny one!! Needs to be viewed large to appreciate the sharpness and detail that the Raynox and Tokina are able to capture, definitely a couple of good buys.

It's a shame about the part of the plant obscuring the view of the fly, but looks worse when cloned out. Only used the sb900 on the hotshoe, going for the lazy macro approach this morning. The fly was lit from behind by the sun, but directly behind the fly was the oil tank resulting in a dark backdrop.

Day 318.

Another Saturday morning spent with Gran, then home. Bit of TV, shopping, then a mad dash to try and catch the sunset. I just made it. ;) I don't really like this, but it's one shot closer to the end. :)

Better than what I have for today, and the weather is terrible here too.

Day 319. The Aww Eyes.

A hungover day, Thomas being off the weekend is a bad idea. I THINK we went to bed at around 3ish? Slept in until 1230, made a fry, played xbox, annoyed Marley, watched the rugby then made tea. My head has been all over the show all day, but it's self inflicted. :)

All this talk of small walk around kits has had me playing with the D40 and 35mm 1.8 combo again. This was 1/40 f/1.8 ISO 1600. I reckon I had a good D40. :D

Smoky!!

Had another interview this morning for another job that I really really want. It went very well, I answered everything correctly, was polite, well dressed (the suit) and on time. It's in a line of work that I have no experience in, but do have skills that could easily be applied to their field.

My first ever attempt at smoke, resulted in drastically underexposed images. Poor wee SB-900 was beeping with the thermal cut-off showing on the screen. I think a blue gel and a snoot was maybe asking a bit much of it, next time I'll use two speedlights. :)

Zoë tells me I missed you by about 2 minutes earlier, I was expecting todays shot :D
The colour works well, have you tried mirroring any of them?

Harder than it looks isnt it? Least yours wasnt grainy like mine.

I love the colour of them and the swirls in the second.

Thanks Lisa, I struggled to get the focus, but found it easy enough after that. I maybe need to use a lighter coloured gel, and maybe experiment with a couple of speedlights with different coloured gels aimed at different parts of the smoke. :D

Day 322. A Celebratory Non-Drink. (So Far)

A celebratory non-drink was had today when I got the phone call about getting the job I interviewed for yesterday. I've to go in on Friday to sort out details etc.

So a line of empty beer cans is as close as I got to a drink today, I might have one or three tonight. Thought it would be better to get the shot for today out of the road sooner rather than later. :)
