JD's 365.

Yeah, that's one thing I discovered with Macro. Shooting at f5.6 is like shooting at f1.4 in other types of photography. ;)

I have a few of the ladybird at f/5.6, the dof is truly worse than my 1.8 nifty.

I'm glad I messed about with reversing it onto the tubes, makes it a bit easier to predict it. :)

Cheers Lisa, you seem to have a soft spot for them. :)

Nic, if you do find some, send some over. Knowing the Swiss, it'll probably me made from superior optical glass for half the cost..

Day 219. A Fly, And A Self Portrait.

See??

Quite a relaxed day at work, spent it on a very large student accommodation block in Derry. 126 flats to test completely, was surprised to get it done in a day!!
Had originally intended to go take a sunset shot with the welding glass, I have my location sorted. Lets just hope the weather stays clear for the weekend.

Best laid plans are usually broken, John rang and suggested a few beer. I'm hardly one to argue. Instead of a beer shot you get a macro. ;)

Only noticed when I stuck it on the computer that I was visible on the first one. Wee sasha sat as good as gold while I took them as well!!

Any ID on the fly??

Love the composition of that fly shot, the abstract background and unusual colours of the fly give it the WOW factor, nice one mate

I like the fly, awesome, you're quite adept at this macro lark.
I wonder how long before I cave in and buy me some macro gear?

Hello! I'm having a catch-up evening. It's been a while!

I love the sky in #148 :)

If you saw my back garden you wouldn't say that!! Well abstract could maybe describe it?? Cheers.

I really don't think I am, but thanks for the compliment. The real Macro Master is Dave. :) Just do it mate, you know it makes sense!!

Thanks Kay, somehow I've missed your thread  Will definitely have a look tonight, I'm sure I've missed loads!! :D

Day 220. And Now For Something Completely Different.

3800701203_8dbf446d9e_o.jpg

The every so slightly monotonous Saturday shopping with Gran. We nearly got kicked out of a charity shop after she decided to try and barter with the staff!! My Granny is mental...

Anyway, I had actually intended to go to the Lurgan Park rally, but didn't really want to pay, I'm tight you see, so after leaving granny off I headed for the Armoy Road Races. I was completely unprepared. I only had one 4gb card, only realised when I got there. I had the 70-300VR so it was ok ish. Completely filled the 4gig card at this one section, call me trigger happy!!

First time shooting bikes, are they any good?? More HERE Very samey, so will probably not post them here.

Mot the typical JD shot, looks good to me. I can imagine it's not that easy to shoot these bad boys ;) ?

Good stuff mate. You've got samey covered...
I'd like to see how you get on panning, getting focus on the riders face worked well in this one :)
Not sure the 70-200 2.8 would have been any use to you for this, light looks pretty strong (which the motorsport freelancers adore).

Not easy at all!! Out of a full 4gb card, (I went through it in about 30mins) 450ish shots, I got about 25 keepers. Actually better keep rate than any car stuff I've tried!!

The light was crap at the end mate, where I could get a nice close up was completely under a tree. Couldn't move during the race, so was stuck and had to make do with where I was. A lot of the one's in the set are wide open, f/5.6 and high ISO, was touching 1600 at some points. But was maybe my fault.

Some panning ones here, Clicky

They are indeed, and very impressive they are too. Absolutely fly about the place - only seem to spend about 10% of the time with the bikes pointed forward. It is drift city when they get going. There were a load of quads on the go as well. My P&S really didn't do it well enough.

Day 221. Hell's Kitchen.

3804680532_20c8739d17_o.jpg

An unusual Sunday, spent it exploring an abandoned hotel near Limavady. I haven't done any urbex in a while and I think it shows. Maybe it was the lack of anything to photograph, the place had been really wrecked. Work tomorrow :(

A bit of an arty farty process to this. Not sure If I like it. It's basically just really desaturated. ???

Really like the processing on this, can't make out the details as I'm viewing on the iPod. Thought it was a while since you had any urbex in your 365 ;)

Cheers mate.

We've honestly ran out of things to urbex over here. It now requires hours sat in front of the computer searching for abandoned sites. My job is a big help, as I normally drive past and nearly crash I'm bending my neck that much!!! This was a "drive by find". :D

219, love the fly shot.

220, stunning bike, they look soooo good  Love the look in the riders eyes. Will get round to looking at the rest on flickr too :) Plus your gran sounds fab

221, love the pp, well i like the whole shot to be honest :)

Thanks Lisa, the 70-300VR for what it is, still really surprises me. Still lusting after a 70-200VR + 1.7TC though...

Day 222. Spider Pig.

3808867978_c2bc56c58b_o.jpg

I hate Monday's, it's official. Got stuck on the same job all day. Major fire alarm breakdown. I had to replace a motherboard, completely reprogramme and then re-commission a 2 loop addressable system. Only left for home at 6 o'clock, so had no time for photos today.

Macro is now the new filler shot!! I saw this guy yesterday in the garden, and when I went back today, he was still in the same place. He was off quite quickly but not before I got a couple shot off.

Day 223. Cute Overload!!

3811604651_e2f9e8538c_o.jpg

Quite a lazy day in comparison to yesterday, I had a 3 hour discharge of some emergency lighting to do first thing this morning. Basically, change any 8w bulbs that need changed, then throw a few key-switches and sit back and try not to fall asleep. I fail!!

Anyway, one question, do we get one??

Thanks Lisa, have you suddenly overcome your hatred of spiders?? I think this is a female orb spider..

No but after having one of the biggest ones ive ever seen in my house last night i can just about look at that little thing today  It trapped me in the room and ran at me  I won though, yep i was brave enough to kill it, teach the damn thing to come near me :nono:

I used to do that. Now I take its photo, for posterity if you like. Then I kill it!!

If i kill one then im being very brave, i have to hit and run and hope i killed it then i have to be about 10 foot away from it even though its dead  Im always told im being a f'ing idiot again when i spot one  Gave my mum a good laugh when i spotted one down her house and ran screaming

Nope, keep it. Cheers. I went a bit mad and took about 100 photos.

Dont blame you, way to cute not to photograph! I remember when my dads JR was a puppy, she was cute then
