JD's 365.

The hot weathers broke here today, it's just rained from about lunch time. I'm off out sailing in a couple of hours, was gonna bring the camera but I guess i'll not be bringing it now.

Just catching up, showing my face.
Mine today might be a beer shot lol.

Day 181. :(

3676328398_dab1420993_b.jpg

Quite a bad day when I sit back and think about it. Had a major meeting this morning with the big boss. Basically we, as engineers, had a decision to make. It was between 2 options, we either went onto reduced time working 3 weeks out of 4. Or, we accepted a reduction in pay, which included a cut on the amount of standby call we are allowed to do and a complete loss of all non-chargable overtime. :( We decided to go down the 2nd route which means for me personally a loss of around £500 a month. (nearly a quarter of my full wage) Not good at all. So here I am contemplating my future with the company. Do I stay or do I go?? Dare I walk into the light, into the unknown??

Blimey, you earn double what I've ever managed.
If you think you can earn that somewhere else, do it.

Sorry to hear your news JD. My suggestion would be to start looking for a job whilst in employment (no idea what your industry is like right now).

Interesting shot too.

Cheers guys, I have been looking for another job, but I'm either going to have to stick it out where I am, or take a major pay cut to move to a more stable position. The industry as whole is terrible, but our company has been able to wear the storm a lot better than anyone else. For example, a major competitor, (ADT) has laid off nearly 30 staff including 20 engineers. We at most are going to lose 2. But the dragging it out process really doesn't do anything for morale. I've felt like jacking it in all day, but I'm definite now to stick at it. (long winded post number 1)

That's a bummer about your industry too. Your position was similar to mine. The only thing that I had keeping me in the job was the redundancy pay, if that was not there I would have left over a year ago.

Sounds like you are taking the best course of action, so I wish you all the best, hope something else better comes up that you can take ;)

Step away from the light JD :D

Seriously though matey, good luck whatever decision you make :)

Sounds like it's time for another beer or two with that news. Good luck with whatever you decide to do Jonny.

Great shot BTW.

Thanks folks. :D

Day 182. Another School, another caretaker...

Another day, another caretaker. I've found that the camera is a sure way of making them leave you alone to get on with your work. I think I've overdone the sharpening on the eyes, it's the only sharpened part of the photo by the way.. ;)

Left off the first dvd of wedding photos tonight. Hopefully the B&G like them and order lots of prints!!

Day 183 More Beer.

3682037357_4abbb74928_b.jpg

Just very slightly over halfway to day 365. YAY!!! I didn't see myself making it this far, to be honest I didn't really have any expectations except that I would try to make the whole year. So I'm having a celebratory beer (or 6) Feel free to join me!!

Cheers!!

This idea went right second time, was aiming to have the "twist off" blurry. First time I misjudged the DOF. Shot with slightly less extension tubes and the 50mm at f/1.8. (Shock, Horror!! The 17-55 f/2.8 was taken off the d90!!)

Strobist: Natural light is KING!!

Right that's it! I'm getting beer on the way home tomorrow!!! You shot makes me want a beer right now though :D

Oh forgot I'm also going to a beer and music festival on Saturday :)

I'm definitely detecting a theme, I just can't put my finger on it! :D

:razz::D

I'm sat here in my boiling hot office right now GASPING for a cold beer after seeing that shot! Torture!!!

I was on the beer last night as well, hence the day late shot about to be posted!!

mmmm beer, nice shot, like the dof!

Thanks Lisa, the nifty at 1.8 on the extension tubes does give some mad DOF.

I joined you with that beer, last night :D

Carling is excellent on draught!

Day 184. Sasha Bath??

3685837960_3b7de90b83.jpg

Was extremely drunk last night, ended up sleeping on the sofa.

It was time for some TLC for Sasha last night, a good brush and a wash. You can see the worry on her face already!!

I'm trying out a watermark for the first time, I'm not sure I like it in black. Maybe white with a black drop shadow?? Also, how can I make sure it's the same size on every picture?? It's a PS file layered onto a Tiff from Lightroom and then free transformed until it looks right.

Day 185. Too little Time!!

3687746146_44b8d9143f_b.jpg

Have been pulled from pillar to post today, was shopping with granny as usual this morning. But got rang about 12, the guy on standby called in sick. So I've just finished the most hectic 5 hours on standby ever!! (I went to a call in Belfast) :p

I don't know exactly, but I know it involves making sure the pictures are all set to the same dpi and size. I saw a tutorial on doing it and you can write an action that sets image size, dpi and positions the watermark in your preferred location. It's a b****r to work out but when it's sorted you can do it all in one click.

Mad day, must be time for a beer ;)

Currently, very drunk!! 7 too many!!!

I've worked it out, I just set the size to a set percentage on the width and height and hey presto!! I prefer the white over the black as well.

I'll have to hunt for that tutorial, it's a shame lightroom needs to be hacked to add a watermark though.. :(

Day 186. Red "Move Really Quick" Thingy??

3689358799_1ba5e8e14e_b.jpg

Ok, I'm hungover. Decided to try some more macro today. It's quite addictive!! I went from reverse mounting the 50mm on a 18-105 lens, to reverse mounting it on the extension tubes. High quality adhesive used. ;)

No idea what this wee thingy is, it's the red things you always see hammering about the patio. They really are very quick!!

Wow, that is crazy macro, no idea what is. Have seen tiny tiny red bugs on brickwork, but this chap looks pink

Day 187. Paid His 20p, But Looked The Wrong Direction Bird.

3694445373_fe08644ba6_b.jpg

Crappy Monday. :( Just hate Mondays. Had quite an interesting day though, spent it going down the railway line from Coleraine to Antrim with a couple of NI Railway engineers, (I thought my job was handy) testing the alarms in the relay switching rooms that controlled all the points and lights etc. Also, got a couple of leads on a few stations that aren't being used!! Completely dorminant. YAY!!
