JD's 365.

Enjoy the new lens JD - new toys are always good.

Day 169. 17-55mm f/2.8.

I picked it up this morning and haven't put the camera down since, only to take this shot and to see what it looked like on the d40. It's soo sharp, I've suddenly realised that all my lens are crap in comparison. Right I'm away to a gig tonight, must go get ready.

Awesome!
Takes the D40 and SB-900 pic to another level, and that was crazy

Day 170. Lower Lough Erne.

Busy day, attended a fire investigation today in Derry. Quite obviously malicious but thankfully that's not my call. I'm only there to ascertain what detectors activated and in what order etc etc.

I've tried this is black and white, found with colour it was hard to maintain enough detail on the bottom of the boat without blowing out the sky. ???

Cheers Julian, wasn't sure about it, I messed about with the sliders in Lightroom. The AUTO button was calling me....

when you're doing the slider 'thing' in lightroom have a look at the top left of that little panel. There is a button that when activated, will let you 'drag' on the picture to adjust multiple sliders at once.

Oh, and nice picture and mono conversion as well :)

Day 171. 17-55 vs 50.

Spent today cleaning the house. First time in 3 weeks!! God, we men know how to live.. (in our own filth!!)

Anyway, house smells weird so was just experimenting with the boke of the new lens vs the nifty at 1.8. I have to say I prefer the 17-55. hardly any PP, just auto and saved for web. Going for a marathon cinema session tonight, we plan to go and see the new Megan Fox movie, sorry the Transformers film and The Hangover, so I thought I'd get an excuse for a couple of photo's in early.

I'm not sure Marc, at 100% the 17-55 at 2.8 is sharper than the 50 at 1.8.

But bang for buck I would definitely prefer the 50mm. I think it cost me £85?? But I'm so in love with the 17-55!!

Hey Jonny, I'm just catching up here. Great shots and a very interesting read. Hope you manage to stay off the siggys! (And the ciggies!)

Oh, and congrats on the news lens, you lucky git!!!!

Day 172. Look What Sasha Found.

Spent today at a fun run in Randalstown for Action Cancer, more of an attempt to try and lose a busting hangover more than anything else. Walked Sasha when I came home, she disappeared into the lake and came back with this wee fella. I thought it would be rude not to use him for my 365. Anyone know which one he is??

Day 173. The Caretaker.

Work again, I'm on call this week so haven't as much time after work to take shots. Was at my last job today, that I've done for the last 5 years. Francis (above) is always good craic and I've got to know him quite well. The conversation leading to this picture was as follows,
Francis: That's a big camera!!
Me: Give us a smile!!
Francis: Grrrrr...

Just checking in, as I have had a busy 3 days. (Went to Silverstone, can't remember if I mentioned it or not?)
50mm looks to have better bokeh to me, but the zoom is more useful I guess.

Thant's a great portrait JD, the eyes are nice and sharp. Would want to meet him on a dark night though!

He's a big softie Marc, I used Hacker's high pass filter tutorial on this picture. Very easy and works very well. Was really a quick grab shot, a spur of the moment pose as well!! :)
