Day 119 Slemish from Behind...

hdrslemish.jpg

A crappy day for taking photo's of stuff, I hate this overcast filthy cloudy weather we are having at the minute. Quite a bad day work wise. We had a engineer meeting this morning and everyone was fearing the worst. But it wasn't quite that bad, we just found out that the next round of redundancies will be in about 2 weeks time. We were also told that the company is doing quite badly at present and if we don't make more money, more engineers could be gone.

So, with a crappy sky and a crappy attitude, I decided to HDR this photo of Slemish. Haven't used Photomatix in ages, forgot how good it was.

So that was the day, and this is the picture.

A bonus one from day 117.

Need serious crit on this one as it's one on the shortlist.

Sorry to hear the news about the company, hope things turn out for the best (whatever that might actually mean). I actually like the photo for today, certainly if you take the 365 as a photo diary I guess it represents your day quite well.

As for C&C - I think the photo would be better with the paraglider slightly larger in the image to draw the eye more.

Cheers Nic.

I see what you mean, but I've loads of close up shots, this is basically my arty one for the CD. I can see straight away that it's not level. I would crop out the slight bit of land in foreground left. God, sometimes you're your own worst critic.

Great shots. Sorry to hear your news JD, I know what it's like waiting for the axe to fall.

Day 120.

Woo Hoo!! Day 120 is here, only 245 to go!! When I started this I had planned to try and take pictures of things I saw in my day to day life. I must admit my job allows me more freedom than most. Who wouldn't want to be out in our beautiful country all day long? This week has really made me sit back and appreciate what I actually have. A loving family, a good job (for now) and lots of good friends. (You know who you are!) In a short while I may not have a job, I feel I need to be prepared for that eventuality, and today I have been actively seeking another position with a few other similar companies. But, after all is said and done, and when I'm long gone, this view will always be there. ;)

Great coastal shot JD, love the great variation in the foreground rocks, to the sea, to the coast beyond and sky. Great

Glad you are in a positive frame of mind today. Need some to rub off on me. Since getting my redundancy notice last week, I've now started to feel the pressure of needing to provide for my family.

I can only sympathise SM, I'm glad that I really only have myself to look after. I couldn't imagine the pressure that you must be feeling. It will work itself out SM. I've always found when trying to find work that a thick skin and persistence are great tools to have.

Day 121.

Quite a busy day. Was really annoyed when a customer kept me waiting for an hour and a half, I just smiled and thought to myself, "Just wait for the bill mister!"

I'm really not sure about this shot, sometimes I like it and sometimes I think it's overdone. It's a picture of a ww2 army camp near Eglinton.

Anyway, I'm on call all weekend and not looking forward to it. :(

haha, I have been playing with HDR this evening - I downloaded the test version of photomatix today. Your shot is a lot better than mine.

I think it is good, the white in the sky on the walls and the ground holds the picture together for me.

I like it, very atmospheric and I'm drawn down the centre of the image by that pathway between the buildings.

Thanks Marc, I'm beginning to like it. ;)

It does take a while to get used to using. SM's tip of starting with the overall strength low, around 35-40 helped a lot. I barely touch most of what it offers, I mainly adjust the micro-contrast, the luminosity, the light smoothing should always be on high, and the saturation and strength.

Well you know I'm a HDR monkey and I really love it JD, works really well for me :)

and my wife thinks it's great too!

Day 122.

Usual Saturday, out shopping with Gran then back to clean the house. (Well, we hovered) I've been quite busy with calls today, was at one this morning at 700am, and the phone hasn't stopped. I think I was leaning back drinking a red bull when I saw how I was reflected in the light shade. It's a kind of self portrait? Oh and Fish eye? who needs a fish eye!!!

Right enough of the Jacksons. A very strange day. Pete (my urbex buddy) was otherwise engaged today, so no exploring for Jonny. Probably only the second Sunday in about 7 months we haven't went somewhere. Was probably a good thing as I was on call and had to go to a couple in Belfast. (some customers are so stupid, but that's for another day) Got back home and have done nothing. Nadda, Zip not a thing. Oh, I watched the snooker, and ate crisps. And played in the garden with the 50mm wide open.
