JD's 365.

Great shot JD. I see what you mean now!

70-300VR soft at 300mm? - everyone keeps telling me that too, but I just don't see it! :)

I can't wait to try it out on Sunday at a track day, haven't shot any motorsport in ages. The last time was with the d40, 70-300 VR and really overcast drag racing at Santa Pod. So it should be a bit better this time!!

Yup it's definitely a bird!

I was taking some picture's of ducks today but they kept straying into area's that where out of focus :p

Great picture JD :) I like b.h.gulls, they have alot of character.

Day 070 Bad Letter...

Had a few more shots planned for today, but after opening this when I came home my enthusiasm has been deflated somewhat. We have known about this for a while but this makes it real.

I've been with the firm for 4 and a half years. The last redundancies were on the basis of 1 and a half weeks pay for every year served. Terrible I know. It really wouldn't be worth even attempting to try and deal with them, here's hoping. Head down, working on.....

Friday the 13th?? Couldn't they have picked another day??

It's like playing the lottery Fabs, you just don't know.

We have heard rumours of them looking between 3-6 engineers to go, the only part of the letter that gives me any hope is the last. Operationally my section is running on a short staff anyway, we maybe have a couple more men than we need but nothing in comparison to the other sections.

Crikey, sorry to hear about that. Things aren't good out there at the moment are they :(

Hope everything works out ok for you.

Sorry to hear your news JD.

I was expecting to hear myself today. Rumours circulating are that around 6000 may have gone in the US today. Maybe us folks in EMEA will know something this week or next.....

The problem I have is where does it stop? We have already had a round of redundancies early last year. I don't want to maybe survive this one then have to go through the uncertainty again. I am seriously considering a steadier job that isn't kind of dependant on the building trade. Less money but a more certain future sounds nice to me.. I do hope everything turns out ok for you as well.

Problem is no trade is really safe right now, but know what you mean. I'm the last person in my dept. left in the UK, so it's no fun at all. I've lived with the threat redundancy most years in the 8 years I've been at the company (I work in IT).

Great Gull shot JD, I need to practice my bird shot's for the trip to Skomer as at the minute I'm hopeless at them.

Sorry to hear about your job situation really hope things go well for you mate.

Sorry to here the news matey :(

If you were north west UK based, i'd be calling you in for an interview with us - we're always on the lookout for skilled engineers (CCTV / AV stuff) as although the building side has slowed down (and affected us in a similar way to you) the medical / healthcare side has rocketed, with everyone panicking to get stuff done.

Chin up JD :)

Loving the high ISO in Day 67!!! I wont use my D300 Above ISO 3200 - YET
Sorry to hear about the Job too JD, my friend has just informed me that her other half has been laid off, from now, with no further payment. Isnt like Great?!

Get that ISO bumpin!!! I've shot plenty of stuff at 6400 and it's noisy but not unusable. Life is brill!!

I didn't really have to work very much for that shot, just throw bread out the window of the van and snap away!! Thanks!

I always forget to take some bread out with me when I go looking for bird shots, something I have been thinking of doing for a while your shot goes to show how effective it can be.

Day 071 Just North Of Ballycastle Harbour.

I finished my days work in Ballycastle today. You can just see Rathlin Island on the left hand side. I've been meaning to go there for a while, maybe next weekend. If you haven't guessed already I really love scenic shots, I tend to sit and just watch nothing happen. The sound of the waves crashing today was really relaxing, but made me want to pee!!

Day 072 Glenarm.

Yeah I know another scenic shot from the North Coast, I really love it up there!! I wasn't that busy at all today, I felt like I was just going through the motions of being at work. I was out last night watching a mates band, so a hangover had a lot to do with it! I really should have taken the camera and nifty last night. But, lesson learned. He plays every Thursday night so expect a couple of gig photos next week!!

Is that taken with a wide angle lens, building on the left seems to slope inwards a bit. Like the moody sky, has a great texture.

Yup SM, 10-20 Sigma, which spends it whole life at 10mm. I tried a few shots without the building as I try to avoid having defined structures at the edge of the frame, but they didn't work. Thanks!

Day 073 Belfast City Hall. (and Big Wheel)

Spent today at Belfast's Flickr meet, had a really great time!! It was nice to be with other people with DSLR's. Felt quite comforting to be in a group rather than on my own!! We spent the morning dandering around Belfast, went to St.Anne's cathedral, I tried my hand at a bit of street photography, (really hard) and then on to the newly refurbished Ulster Hall. The Ulster Hall is really beautifully done, but most of the pics were at 6400 so I'm not going to subject you to them just yet!! Oh, another bendy building ShrubMonkey!!

Interesting angle and great sky again, I would crop out that bit of building on the left ;)
