Japan fell silent @ 08:15 this morning

AFAIK, the Enola Gay was used for a reconnaissance/practice run over Hiroshima a few days before the mission. Two other B29s flew with her on the day, carrying instruments and photographic equipment.
I spotted an aluminium cylinder a little bigger than a pressure cooker in the corner of the Hiroshima museum. It had a glass dome at one end, inside the dome you could could see some measuring instruments. And looked in good condition. A little placard said it had been found in the streets of Hiroshima still attached to a parachute, a few days after the attack. It had been dropped from one of the US planes prior to dropping the bomb to send temperature and pressure readings back by radio to the planes.

I was just listening to some of the war stories from British soldiers on VJ Day

It's no wonder they can't forgive them for what they did, having to listen to their captured comrades being tourtured all night then when they were dead booby trapping the bodies

Doesn't bear thinking about ,as someone who never served in the armed forces I have nothing but respect for those that did and am grateful they provided me with the life I have today'

They were relating a few stories on R2 the other day, well, children and grand children were,
As I posted above, very few returning POW's said much about it, but there was also a comment that the returning soldiers were under orders, not to say anything
about the way they were treated!
Makes you wonder!

A lot of people feel that Japan got of lightly for the war crimes they committed, compared to the Germans :(
