Jammy_c's 52! - Making a "Fresh Start" for my 52!

Oh very clever!!!

Maybe one day I'll understand how it was done, til then I am going to ponder on how you got the mirror to stand up on the bed.

Oh that is clever and well executed :) Really like that :) Good thinking !!!

And the redo of the learning one is much less hazy :) Good stuff!

This is good stuff :)

Maybe one day I'll understand how it was done, til then I am going to ponder on how you got the mirror to stand up on the bed.

I don't understand how you did it either. Excellent ps skills - or idential twins?

Lol, GIMP and a tripod did have an important part to play, I have to confess. But the mirror really was stood on the bed (it's got a stand on the back like a photo frame! - handy) ;)
It was the other half's idea actually, so I can't take all the credit.

Unfortunately there's no twins :( shame. lol :)

Very good... well done  that's worked really well and is a great idea.

Yes that's a great opposite...

Got to sharpen up my PS skills, I'd love to be able to do that..

Nice one...

Cool idea :) - somewhat more interesting than my 'Opposites'!

Really like your Opposites submission, I remember going from one expression to the other in the blink of an eye at that age :D

Well done and keep it up

Your opposites shot is a very clever interpretation and works very well

WEEK 6 - Special
BWandColour.jpg

My Fiancee on Valentine's Day ...

I love the idea and concept and I love the selective colouring - although it suffers a little bit from being very soft though! Unless my eyes are going :)

Unless you were going for a dreamy romantic look :)

Very special indeed though I must agree :D

Yeah, i added a about 10 points of "Gaussian Blur" and a small hint of "softglow" to warm the image a little. it looked a bit cold after i'd converted it to B&W.

To be perfectly honest, it was also to disguise the graining caused by the high ISO, as it was taken indoor with poor lighting :(

Not sure the grain would have mattered - I think if the ring looked sharp in amongst the softer background that would have helped :)

Hate to be less than positive over such a special shot :D But I guess we're doing it to learn :)

Cheers! :)

 Lessons Learnt this week:

1) Trying to shoot at Low ISO in a poorly lit room doesn't work. :bonk:

2) Trying to shoot with aperture priority in a poorly lit room doesn't work very well without a tripod. :bonk:

3) Asking your other half to hold a card for ten minutes whilst you set up a tripod on valentine's day is NOT very romantic, nor recommended.

4) Shooting RAW is a must with incandescent lighting to adjust levels afterwards.

5) Setting a "perfect" custom white balance, and adjusting exp comp takes (me) ages. :gag: but is well worth it! (this pic was taken on auto WB btw...)

Not at all, cheers for the comments.

I might actually have a go at keeping it a bit clearer and sharper, and maybe lightening it up a little. Looking back, I think I should have only applied the blur to the B&W.

Also, i might keep the Red hearts and ribbon on the card. i'll have a play around ...

I'm with John here, I don't think the grain would have mattered. I think there's a couple of elements that needs to be sharp. The ring and possibly the writing, it's still a good shot and works well though.

cant agree with that more :)

:agree:, but nice sentiment

Ok, so i've had a go at Re-doing it. the writing is not very sharp, but perhaps that's because the DOF was too small.

Any Better?

BWColourRe-PP.jpg

 I think that's much better. The writing might not be 100% sharp, but it's legible and clear.

I too prefer the second version, and it's a great take on Special, and your learning points made me LOL

Well done you, and well done to your lovely fiance, it bodes well for the future that she is soooo patient :naughty:

I really like the idea behind this shot and technically is beyond my capabilities at the moment.

I too prefer the cleaner look of the secon shot with the red ribbon, hearts and the whiteness of that lovely stone.

It is nice when comments from others can spur us on to redo and learn more dont ya think!

Well done :clap::clap:

Well done

Thanks! :) yeah, that's exactly the reason that i started doing the 52, so I can learn and make some mistakes, and people can tell me what they like and don't like about the shots/techniques. I think that's what it's all about!

Stuff like this is pretty easy to do with a bit of time and practice, I taught myself to use GIMP, I recommend getting yourself a copy and playing around! and it's free! :)

I like this, I like the way that your eye is drawn to the engagement ring adn teh teddies

That's really good the way the ring stands out really draws the eye.:clap:

Sorry I didn't see this when you first posted it.

Well done on:

1 good interpretation of the theme

2 having a tog-friendly fiancee (very important) :)

3 not being afraid to experiment

4 being prepared to have another go - and make a huge improvement

I hope your fiancee was suitably rewarded. :):);)

Jean

haha :) she is always rewarded. lol

thanks for the kind comments. I know i'm over two weeks behind now, but i have something for week 8, but nothing for week 7! i'm hoping to find some inspiration over the next couple of days, and should be back up to date again!!! :)

Week 7 - Crowds :crowded::crowded::crowded:
DSC_4246.jpg

This is the most crowded place I could find amongst my travels recently. I know it's a tad dark, but I liked the tone of the sky. could perhaps do with tweaking a little...

Week 8 - Wealth
DSC_4173.jpg

When I was growing up, I was always told by my parents "Money doesn't just grow on trees, you know"!
If only it did... we'd all be rich then! ;) I thought that theory would be good for the wealth topic?

Crowds - like the angle of the shoot and the composition - not too keen on the processing the sky seems a bit pixelated and the foreground a bit dark..sorry

Wealth - nice simple idea with good use of dof.

I like the crowds shot, only the angle of the land makes me feel like I might roll off. For me personally I would have liked it straight.

Wealth shot, nice take on the theme, good clear image, well done

:clap::clap::clap:

I like the crowds shot, although the foreground is a little dark. You could try, selecting the ground, then do a curves/levels adjustment layer and lighten the foreground.

Wealth is a very simple idea, a good take on the theme, with good use of DOF.

I'm never sure about angled shots. I generally think they look good, but other people say things to me like "shame about the wonky horizon" :bang: I suppose it's personal taste, like Angela says.

Yes, the foreground is a bit dark, but I like the sky. The warm colour suggests it was quite late in the afternoon. I agree with jgs001's suggestion.:)

The question I HAVE to ask - how on earth did you get all those sheep to look at the camera? :D

The Wealth shot, like all the best ideas, is simple, but bang on target for the theme. Excellent.

Jean

First the crowds shot...I love the sky you got going there...and see why you liked it... yes the forground is a bit dark but that's a easy fix and worth having a play around again...

As for the money growing on trees...

That's such a great idea... 10/10 from me...

Yeah, I thought it looked a bit boring just as a square-on shot of a sheep-filled field and the tilt added a bit more to it. I think it only suits some landscape shots, not the majority though, IMHO.

It is a bit dark, I wish I’d shot in RAW now so I could have adjusted it a bit more effectively. I fitted the polarising filter before the shot, so I guess I should have taken a few moments to adjust settings.
I was just aware that I needed a fairly high f/stop to keep them all in focus.
It was about 3pm, so the sun was relatively low, yeah. ;)

The question I HAVE to ask - how on earth did you get all those sheep to look at the camera?
 I put it down to the fact that I was standing next to my diesel corsa which sounds like a tractor. I imagine they all thought they were going to get fed. There was a lot of “baahh”-ing

As for the money growing on trees... That's such a great idea... 10/10 from me...

I like the crowds shot - something slightly sinister about the processing...

And thanks for proving money does grow on trees - you have proved that every parent in the history of the world is talking rubbish! The dof works just right too :)
