I just gave JAlbum a try and once you get into it it's great, I found a skin for it that I think works really well, it's called Tiltviewer and is worth a look.

I too use Jalbum, I just find that it seems to upload a lot of files even when you have only add a couple of images in a new folder.

On the Tiltviewer Steep, does it put your caption text on the back of the images for people to read when they flip over the photo.

My jalbum

whiteflyer there is the option to show exif, comments and file name, I set it up to show just the file name.

It's bad enough when you are sober - I would hate to go try and look at images using it if I wasn't

Are you serious? I know tastes vary but that was horrible. maybe it works better on a smaller screen. Made me feel a bit seasick

Nothing wrong with the pictures but i couldn't view them like that.

Have been playing with this program for the last few weeks with a view to setting up my own website. Nice and easy to use and loads of skins to try out.

I have to say the more I use it the more cumbersome it feels, but hey ho, as hypnotic says there's plenty more to choose from :)

I poked around in the CSS files for one of the included skins and made it match the rest of my site. One day I'll get around to finishing my own gallery script but until then Jalbum does the job nicely

I'm actually moving away from Jalbum for one main reason.

If you're selling prints and want to use a shopping cart as far as I could find if you want to update your pricing you have to do it for every image in the gallery. Fine if you've not got that many images but if you're into the 1000's it's a major undertaking.

Just in the process of updating my horse site with Gallery2 which is more flexible, more feature rich, just better, for me anyway :)

Changes prices in Jalbum is a bit of a pain but you only need to upload the .html files. I just ftp the lot and tell it to only overwrite the newer files - it doesn't take long.

I'm sure it's possible to hack the template so prices are taken from a single file on the fly, I might have a play with that next time I have a spare hour to pass.

if you select custom, instead of inline
there is a separate file with all the pricing
it does mean "recompiling"
but all the albums use the same file so it's fairly mechanical

I have done it for mine so if anyone needs a heads up on the details.....

I don't have an option for Custom on the selling tab - just omit, inline and multi-line???

I'm using Jalbum 8.0.9
mebbe new in that build

I found it, it's not part of my hacked skin as I need to update a couple of files but it looks like the prices are read from the file when the page is built rather than when the page is displayed, ie. still hard coded.

So if you change the prices you still need to rebuild/upload the entire gallery rather than just change a single file :(

yup
I just had a bit of a poke about
the pricing info is indeed embedded into the html file that accompanies each picture

the only upside then is that the same price (source) file is shared by all albums (at build time)

That's the beauthy of Gallery ;) you can change prices for the entire site or individual albums without recompiling the whole site. I think you can even take it down to individual images, haven't tried that yet.

I think that happened anyway, the custom file was added to let people add more print sizes than the old method allowed for. I think to get different prices per "folder" you need to create multiple albums off a root one and set the root to not include subfolders. Then each album off the root has it's own skin/settings/etc.

I'm probably re-inventing the wheel as no doubt there's a solution on the JA forums ready and working but my plan (if and when) is to use Dreamweavers spry include to build the form data from a xml file that could be global or local for the folder. It's just a matter of editing the .htt template for the slides and job done. Of course everything works in theory but I live pretty far from there

I really do wish I could join this conversation.....
