Nice scrapbook too with such variety in it.
When do you go to New York? I spotted your other thread. I was there in March last year, fantastic place.
Awww now that's a lovely idea!... looks ace![]()
Oh that's wonderful Jake, and just think of all the places still for you and Poppy to visit![]()

Great shot Jake - love yours and Poppys idea to do the scrapbook![]()
We were in New york for 5 nights, we hardly sat still for 10 minutes the whole time. Top of the rock and empire state building an hour before dark so you get daylight and night shots, boat trip round the island, helicopter trip over harbour, liberty island brooklyn bridge etc, staten island ferry to staten island and back - its free, subway to brooklyn and walked back via brooklyn bridge for great views (my profile pic was taken from brooklyn with manhatten in the background), natural history museum, central park, 5th avenue, times square, battery park, financial district, chinatown, little italy, botanic gardens in the bronx. Mad place and everything is so big.
Hi. We booked a lot of stuff before we left, I think we got a deal on the circle line cruise, the liberty helicopter flight, the empire state building, the top of the rock and the natural history museum for booking it all together from home. We used the subway quite a bit but not enough to warrant buying a week pass, a single ticket was only a couple of dollars I think. If you are there for a week a week pass might be worth it, check out new jersey transit web site. We were staying on 34th st so walked to all the mid town places and got the subway to the bronx uptown and brooklyn, the heliport and staten island ferry etc downtown the couple of days we were down that end. Have you got yourself a good map? It will normally have a good subway map on it too. Dont be afraid of the subway, we never saw any trouble and it is so handy. I cant remember how much we spent, I will check with the wife later, but we had a lot booked as I said so it was mostly only food, drink and transport that we had to buy out there. Oh, go to a broadway show when you are there too, we saw the Lion King, really really good. As I said we did both empire state and Rockefeller buildings, there can sometimes be long queues to get up so we just did them once going up an hour or so before dark and staying a couple of hours and watching the whole city light up. Amazing stuff. And bring a tripod for times square at night, class too.

What a lovely idea, wish me and and the Mrs had time to do stuff like that before the kids came along we never even went on holiday!!! Keep it up it will lovely to look back on!
I've been looking at buying a lot of the stuff in advance. We're going to do Madame Tussauds and probably Central Park Zoo. I don't know about the helicopter ride, it's quite expensive. If we go to watch a Broadway show I'm pretty sure it will be Chicago, as Poppy is a fan!
I've got a Thomas Cook New York guide book I bought from Amazon, which I havent yet looked at, but if that's not good enough I'll find some more things.
I'm going to be taking the big Giotto's Tripod (is there enough room to use it in Time Square etc?) for some more in depth thought out shots, and I will most probably buy a gorillapod as there not too expensive.
I'm sure the subway will be fine, it can't be much different to the underground in London and that's easy enough!
My hotel is on the corner of 8th Ave & 34th St, so we're in a similar place to you for walking distances.
Thank you for all the advise! Fountain of knowledge![]()
I had a gorrilapod with me and used it quite a bit, the big tripod you should be able to get away with in Times Square ok. There is a big grandstand type thing at one end of the square and a lot of people were going right to the top at the back and using tripods there where they were in no ones way. I bought AA City Guides for the 2 times I have been over there, they list all the best sights and have a good fold out map in the back that you can take out and about with you. Anything else I can help with just shout.
Like that Jake, very appropriate!
I was reading your other thread a couple of days ago and getting very jealous! I have only been once, when I was very young, and can only vividly remember 3 things....I went to the top of the Empire State Building, I very nearly got covered in pigeon poop and my tooth fell out on the last night!
Classic shot Jake , very nice
