Ohh I see there's a sub forum - no wonder I couldn't find everyone elses.. Could an admin move this into there please or shall I start it again in the right place? Cheers.

That took me two or three looks before it clicked :) Cleeeeever :)

The blue background is a bit overpowering for my tastes but the concept works :) :)

Agreed on the blue in the background, but I like it all the same!

Cheers.

I confess this was done about 23pm last night and I rushed it in.

I think it's quite interesting and I'll definately be revisiting this again to improve the shot. (tripod/better lighting etc)

<edit>
I just noticed it was still open in Photoshop - spent longer than 2 minutes on the colour balance, and seem to have magically removed the blue noise.

Revised 52-1A

Really liking the idea. I don't think the edit is right though either. There's no blue noise for sure, but there's some funky orange noise.

Definitely an idea to try again! Keep it up and good luck!!

OK Here we go for the second topic - History. Taken today so technically not in the week it's meant to be, but who cares. A Roman Fort from the 2nd Century...

Thanks all for the comments on the previous image. Like these images I feel that, and probably more of my images will deserve a reshoot at some point in the future.

The good thing about this is it's got me thinking I read up on a bunch of stuff (local history!) and actually went out on location to get the shots but with the weather and time of year perhaps not the best subject for shooting. However, my searching has given me load of ideas and has gotten me out the house on a cold winters day.

It took me 35 mins to drive here, then 1/2 mile walk up a hill. I spent about 15 mins trying to find the place at the top of the hill and only had 15 mins to takes some shots and get going again as I'm a busy person with people to see and things to do.. Oh well - a location has been scouted. There are some nice pictures on flicker I noticed after I came back I guess in the summer it would be very nice.

Took about 30 shots and tbh ,most are not very interesting, and I noticed a couple of missed shots I could have taken but didn't have time to fully scout the area out nor experiment.

Here are the pics....

Oblig info shot - This was taken at an oblique angle and distorted back to shape in PS.

Probably the best shot of the ruin, which is saying not a lot or a lot depending on yout viewpoint :)

The best one is the panoramic I feel, but it's not on topic..

Thanks for reading...

Difficult one to get a great shot from and keep to the topic. Works for the theme with the info shot.

Only just seen this thread. Doh.

I had to look more than once to get the twist in your reflections shot - very clever idea - and I agree with the comments on noise, etc. Well worth reshooting, imho.

Interesting topic for wk 2. It's really hard getting good outdoor shots in January. I did a smilar thing - photographed the text - so I have to think it's a good idea  But like you, I shall revisit the site I used again in better light.

Look forward to seeing your week 3. :)

Jean

It's certainly historic and well shot. and I like the sky in the panorama, it's almost violet in places. What are you up to for Learning?

Keep looking at the reflection shot and thinking it is certainly different and it's growing on me :D I liek your panoramic, you can see the history of the land - no??? okay feeble I know

Well here's my attempt at 'learning'. S'ok I guess, but I would say it's kinda weak overall. My plan was to get a shot of the college or the school, but the weather has been less than inspirational.

I post up 3 versions here, I think the first is the best, what do you think?

I'll need to get 'surprise' up here asap so I can avoid working a week behind <sigh> :)

Hello jaffamuffin, I can see we joined the forum at the same time. I also have started this but have only managed to get the first two weeks done. I love the idea of the candle in the class, very clever.

well done

Hi

Of your book shots I like 3 the best, nice kind of sepia effect.

BTW: you seem in a hurry to learn, C++ in 21 days, SQL in 10 minutes ;)

Three good shots, but I like the symmetry in #2, the nice crisp b&w treatment, and even the omission of 'fun' books like British Hit Singles and The Hobbit.

I always think other people's bookshelves are fascinating, anyway, and despite the comment about learning in a hurry, I see you're serious about Linux - the complete reference, no less. :)

Look forward to your next pic.

Jean

#3 for me has an older, library type feel and I like, as Jean says, the inclusion of the non-learning books works somehow (those two happen to be faves of mine :)(not the Jamie one ;)))

Meets the brief, looking forward to Surprise now :)

No.2 is best for me nice and clean and the spine on view works for the books.

I prefer the sepia one, but wonder why you didn't show a colour option too

and sad to say I like all 3 non-technical books :lol:

Now pull your socks up and catch up :naughty:

Thanks for the comments.. Arghhh I'm falling behind. :) I'll get some shots up. still 3 to go .. Where do you guys getthe inspiration?

Ha - great pair of shots and yup you can interpret it any way you like :)

That is an ace pair of images - now did she really take you?;) Spill the beans :D

And opposite? Hits the theme spot on :D nice one!

Heh. I am now using a LCD screen and can now SEE the funky noise you are on about. :) hehe..

I think it was mainly just due to very poor light and ramping of the levels in PS.

here's a shot of how it was done..

Thanks :) She sure did take the shot, she took a few other nice shots as well.. It's great having a second camera person tag a long :D

Love the Opposites shot, and yes, you can interpret anyway you like :D I like the way the wooden path leads you through the first picture, and I can see she's going to cost you serious money on camera kit as she gets older - unless you recycle yours . Well done :clap:

Opposites - Great idea, I think your 3 year old shot has the better composition with the curvy line leading to you and being framed by the tree ;).

Did you get one where you were lying on the floor so you are looking up at your daughter and she was looking down at you. If you did can we see it, if not I think that would have worked well with your legs disappearing up the winding path and your daughter's pink coat would have contrasted nicely against the background.

Love the opposites shots... works really well. Of course, the other option is that you can pass on your gear to her to get the upgrades you need :)...

I'm doing some serious catching up today - sorry I didn't get a chance to comment before.

We can't complain - getting 2 opposites photos for the price of one. Bargain. :D They work together well and are a good interpretation of the theme.

Your little girl looks all set to be a star togger. I'd start budgeting now for all that extra kit she'll need.

Jean

Your little girl is so lucky. If only they'd had digital camera's when I was little. Its much easier for them to start younger with digital as it doesn't cost so much with the processing. Nicely thought out idea.

Love the take for opposites and the diffent sizes of the subjects in the two shots follows the opposites theme.
