So we all know about the age old question about Jaffa cakes (biscuit or cake). Personally as it is mainly sponge my vote is for cake, however if this is the case, why are they found in the biscuit aisle?

Discuss :jaffa::jaffa::jaffa::jaffa::)

I believe there was VAT tribunal case to discuss this very matter. :-)

They called it a cake because it IS a cake - only cooked once rather than twice (bis cuit = twice cooked in French.) Relatively flat compared to other cakes so packaged like biscuits and in the biscuit aisle in shops.

Those Greenies don't know or care why they're in the biscuit aisle, they only want to know if they're in stock. :p

Perhaps McVities have an agreement with supermarkets to market them in the biscuit aisle. :cautious:

Almost the most important thread on TP

I am bloody confused, where have the Jaffa Cakes with the Blackcurrant filling gone? Conspiracies abound, why did Lemon Curd Jammie Dodgers disappear when production of the Dodgers was moved to Poland.....

The legal case decided it was a cake. The reasoning behind this concerns what happens when they are left out. A cake dries up and turns hard, while a biscuit goes soft. Jaffa cakes go hard. (y)

Yes. That was all over whether or not VAT should be charged on them, and since they're cakes, it isn't.
But who did/do they bribe to be sold in the biscuit aisle (where sales far exceed those in the cake aisle)? :cautious::ROFLMAO:

Presumably the same person/people that take the payments for placing products on the eye/buy line in shops. We very often buy the cheap option from the bottom shelf but we're lucky in that we can both get down there to do so but some less able people simply can't pick the cheaper options up unless some kind soul does the bending for them. Similarly the top shelves.

"Lime and blackcurrant are "occasional varieties", and will reappear.
Meanwhile, our blackcurrant cake bars are available at the moment
."

It's amazing what results can be gained by email.

No word yet from Burton's regarding the Dodgers, but they're not made in Poland, they're made in Llantarnam, Wales.

:)

I do the same, however once 3/4 of the edge has gone I separate the sponge and jelly with my tongue and eat separately :)
Pervert!

Just kidding.
What is it about Jaffa cakes that makes them as desirable as crack cocaine???

Mixed up the threatened closure of Jacobs factory (where they make Tuc and Cream Crackers) in Liverpool and production transfer to Poland with Burtond.... SMH - I was addicted to Tuc a long time ago.

Thank you for the clarification.

I have 3 packs of them staring at me from the kitchen cabinet

How come I am in my 80's and never tasted these delights.

:jaffa: Keith.....:jaffa: Keeeiiitthh....

Just like taking candy from a "Baby" Eh Chris? :p

Love it, although he is 8, it still counts. I use the excuse of Quality Control, as the packet (box) is open, I need to ensure that they haven't become stale ;

We buy the boxes of 36 and they are usually all gone by mid week :jaffa::jaffa::jaffa:

There were 2 packs in the cupboard last week.... gone....

Had really dark thoughts about my son who professes to hate them.

Woke up with a bad knee and went to the freezer to get ice for an ice pack... under the party bag of ice cubes... 2 boxes of Jaffa Cakes... that is pure evil...

Revenge will be forthcoming

Tut tut tut, in this day and age im surprised that you want to pigeon hole them in either category........they're clearly sweet treat neutral!

Of course it still counts and I shall be having a quiet word with your son too :D

Have you seen the "yard of Jaffa Cakes" that are occasionally available in some super markets?
Not sure how many is in there but its gotta be about 100.

Are you sure that you didn't put them there by "mistake"? I occasionally find things in the fridge or freezer that don't actually belong there... :D

Drastic measures may be needed.
