Yes
anyone used them
i know they been around a long timer and have a store in manchester that i sometimes have a look in.
however i have just ordered online. got a spyder studio, printer/monitor calibrator.
it was not cheap £299 but around £30 cheaper than everywhere else.
after i ordered it i came across some bad reports on another camera forum ,
annoying thing is i had read this before but had forgotten
anyway basically what they tend to do is take orders even if things are not in stock, debit cards regardless of stock status. and then make you wait
and if when it comes back in stock and as gone up you have to pay the higher price, obviously they contact you first, and this is in there t+c
on website spyder shows 5-7 days for hone delivery. its now been 10 days if you count sat and sun, so they had my £300 all this time
rang t oday to get told its on back order, i asked for a time scale, cant give me one
i know what i should do, but im just hoping that they get it me soon at the price i paid

Ive bought quite a bit off them always had good service from them, last thing I bought was a 50-200mm sigma lens ordered it, they rung me up 2 days later to say it would be with me that day and it was

The reason I have bought from Jacobs in the past is because they have stores, so purchase online, pickup in store. or get them to price match in store.

thats what i was hoping for, but a quick google shows quite a lot of bad press for them
to debit cards knowing full well goods are not in stock or even knowing when they will be in is not on
imagine how much interest they make holding on to all that money, so even if people cancel they still make

I used them for the first time a couple of weeks ago, they had a NEW L'ion Battery Pack for my H1 as Clearance stock for £99 reduced from £249.

Only problem was they sent it to the wrong address, fortunately the bloke across the road came looking for me. Other than that, no issues.

I bought a Canon 100mm L from them. It was out of stock, but over £200 cheaper than the next cheapest. They stuck to thier word and charged me the lower rate, even though the price on the site had risen to normal price by the time it was dispatched.

Bouiht my 50D from them last year, had a problem with the camera, they replaced it after they tested the camera and found it did have fault.

I tried to buy a 100-400 from them. Their service was farcical.

I paid for the premium delivery as I needed it fast. Two days later it had not arrived so I got on to them and the first person I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about (or what day it was probably). I phoned a second time and was told that my lens was in stock and should be picked and packed tomorrow but would not be posted until after the weekend when I needed it. This barely meets the standard postage. I cancelled the order and bought locally. Guess what turned up on Monday morning.

They also take funds out of your account as soon as they get the order regardless of whether they have stock, which I understand is illegal.

I've had this exact same issue and was not impressed. It was for four Canon lenses with an order value in the region of £2,200, just before the big price hike 2.5 years ago. Naturally I wanted to pay the old price and not the new price when new stock came in. I canceled the order and Warehouse Express got my business instead. WE didn't have any stock either, but did agree to honour the current price, and when stock finally materialised a few weeks later (everyone was waiting for stock) they were true to their word.

I've used Jacobs since without issue, when the price has been competitive and items have been in stock - I'm not daft enough to cut off my nose to spite my face. But if you're spending big money and they're out of stock then think twice before placing an order.

Not good service but not illegal.

in the end i cancelled my order as they could not give me a delivery date
within 24 hrs they had refunded my money 9i was a bit surprised it came so quick)
so i guess they not done bad, holding £300 for 2 weeks and gaining a bit of interest

I bought Canon body from them online, and after a few months had an issue with dust getting behind the lcd cover, I was able to take it back to my local branch and leave it for them to send off for repair, got a call a week later to ask if I would like it posted on or was I going to collect it from the branch. That saved me all the hassle and responsibility of posting it.

I have heard a number of traders say otherwise.

Do you have any more info - Would be very interested to know under what Act ?

A while ago Consumerdirect pointed me towards the Distance Selling Regs which seem to specifically allow it as they say that if the merchant cannot deliver the goods within the statutory 30 day limit then they "must refund all
money paid in relation to the contract including the postage and
packaging" and "The refund should be made as quickly as possible and within a
maximum of 30 days."

If things have changed it would be really uaeful to have details of what now makes it illegal.
