Jacobs stock online auction

Had a walk down to the warehouse this morning to have a look round. It is at the bottom of the road I live on.
All new Nikon and Canon as been sent back but some used equipment including a D3x and a few D3's.
Sony users would be happy in there, new bodies from A230 to A77's and new Sony lenses including fast glass,e.g. 85mm f1.4.
There are plenty new Tamron and Sigma lenses Canon and Nikon fit.
It felt sad wondering around what is left of a good old photography business.

If successful bidder, is there any option for postage?

I doubt it, if there was that option they would have advertised it to attract more bidders.

So pickup only? (sorry, too lazy to browse through the terms and conditions ;))

Looks like it, yes. I would have been tempted otherwise, but its too far from me to make it worthwhile.
Thanks :)
At least that will free up some time in my calendar, I'd otherwise would have spent bidding, hehe.

I'd like to know what happens to any unsold stuff and whether you could just pitch up on the day the auction ends and hoover up any of the decent left overs :)

I doubt there'll be leftovers. I'm sure there'll be dealers bidding so everything will get sold, even if it's at crazy prices,

Without a reserve all will go.

I'm not so sure about the crazy prices, I'm under no illusions that there are going to be stupidly cheap bargins, but I would think as I'm sure any dealer would also that they're not going to bit to a point where it's over the odds, let's face it if they're a dealer they want to sell for a profit, so after collecting it, if they pay crazy prices it's not going to leave any profit for them

That said there are a few items that have already surpassed the point that they would ever be worth buying :suspect:

Namely Lot: 1056  Sigma 150-500 currently at 495 or actually £683.10 if you take in the costs :shake: you can have one delivered new from DigitalRev for £609.99 :cuckoo:

Ah. Might have a look and place a few stupidly low bids in that case :)

I thought this condition was interesting! The same feature on eBay would shake things up a bit!

Auction sniping feature is enabled on this sale. If a successful bid is placed on a lot within the last 10 minutes of closing, the lot will be extended for a further 10 minutes.

All lots will be sold subject to the conditions of sale you agree to by registering. Bidders are strongly advised to read them carefully.

I actually rather liked that bit, as it makes it just like a physical auction  I'd love to see that on ebay :D not that I've ever used ebay ;) I went over yesterday but then didn't get in because I had to come home but will be going over tomorrow to have a good look at whats on sale :D

Stuff goes for stupid money on ebay all the time. It is the nature of auctions. Competition for something makes people pay over the odds.

One of the A77s is over 700 already so even at the bid price excluding the costs it's over the odds compared to panamoz/digital rev.

Looks like basic maths and research haven't been carried out at all by many bidders.

I shall watch snickering from the side lines.

I've never got that gotta win at all costs mentality :suspect: some people need to get out more, I'm not going to pay a price that I could get it delivered for free rather than having to drag my backside to fetch it

I suppose a courier could pick up and deliver.

Indeed, the charges are the first thing that I worked out

BID COMMISION INC VAT
£5.00 £5.75 £6.90

£1,000.00 £1,150.00 £1,380.00

They'd have to have the correct documents with them and there might be a queue - I doubt any of the major couriers could be bothered but you might find a smaller outfit who'd be prepared to do it.

Well I've just got back a couple of hours ago from having a look at the items on sale, there are some interesting lot's and quite a few items that I'm looking at with a view to bidding on them...

Interesting was to inspect the ex-hire Canon 70-200/2.8 it looked okay but for the bit of tarnishing to the mount :suspect:

That the mk2 (1318)?

Well I hope I get outbid on an item I placed a bid on - I bought a mint 2nd hand version last night!

That the mk2 (1318)?

That's the one :( would have put a bid in but having seen it while it not that bad, I just wouldn't want it as it's clear it not always had the best care :shake:

I've been watching a few things but many are heading quickly towards full retail price. Madness.

Just registered to have a snoop, plenty plonkers bidding over the odds :D

Unlike Ebay anyone attempting to renege on the deal will be pursued for payment!

  Indeed there are  I'm amazed at the way some of the stuff has gone, thankfully I'm not interested in any of the big ticket items, I'm bidding on a couple of lens but it's smaller stuff that's of interest to me :D

Hmmm 4 boxes of Jacobs bags for life

Be interesting to see if anyone on here actually comes away with a bargain after paying the exorbitant fees.

We'll see. I've bidded on one item and decided what my limit is. If I get it at that price then it is a reasonable bargain (assuming any of the used equipment is actually in working order obviously).

the worst part of the fees are the Uk governments vat
fine if you can claim it back though
I thought the auction fees are the std fees across the board for auctioneers but I could be wrong
Not sure how they are working the vat but I thought in the photographic industry vat worked like it does in the used car industry and is chargeable on the difference between the purchase price and selling price due to the low margins
all to complicated this vat rip off if you ask me

Well I had a good look around and most of it did appear to be reasonable, though I'll be honest never looked at any sony stuff other than a cursory glance it its direction

As it works anyway. When you pay your quarterly VAT, its what you have collected - what you have paid = bill.

Low margins in the secondhand car industry?

The VAT on this auction is on the hammer price, it obviously can't be on the margin as the items are being offered to the public.......
