No
I have used Jacobs for many years - so I'll be sad to see them go.

I always had good service from them and their staff were very helpful and polite on the 'phone. How sad for them.

The administrators are holding a closing down sale starting at 08:45 on 30 June in the Leicester branch - LE2 0QD

Too far for me, being just north of the Isle of Wight, but it might be of interest to some

I live in Leicester, already thought it looked sparse a week or two back.

Shame, we used to have a great Jessops store out of the city, Jacobs and a Young's, all with great secondhand displays to lure you in.

Will be interesting to know the prices, was 30pc discount, but prices considerably above net prices anyway.

This is a very sad day. I have used Jacobs Digital on London Road Leicester a lot over the past few years, it was always well stocked and the staff were excellent.

I appreciate that these stores cannot compete with Internet prices but where are we supposed to go to handle new kit?

Therein lies the problem, everyone just went into the stores, handled the gear and then left and bought it elsewhere online...

Rhody, where is the sale advertised?

As an established customer and on their data base, I received an email direct from the administrators.

If I lived a bit closer I would look in but I live in Portsmouth so it's not really practical.

If I went - I know I wouldn't leave empty handed and then I would have to find ways of smuggling things through the front door and get into the habit of saying "What this? No, it's not new. I have had it for years, you must have seen it before?"

This is the answer I get when I say "Those shoes / that handbag / that dress look stunning together..........................."

Is Jacobs Digital continuining to trade and just the shops closing? The website looked to be businbess as usual.

I don't know I'm afraid - I'm nothing to do with the company or the administrators - just a long standing customer.

I just shared the "Closing Down Sale" info in the forum in case anyone wanted to go along and grab a bargain or two.

I went this morning, wasn't that impressed, bought nothing. There were a few items with some good prices, but appears mainly they are charging pretty much retail price and then knock off 15% for items over £500, 25% for sub £250. 50% off Jacobs own products...but...handgrip...£30! stroll on! Hoped maybe a printer...but no printers. After the reduction prices were roughy online prices, some taking it below.

Lots of secondhand stuff, one or two items at ok prices but generally more than you would pay in TP forums. Have quite a few D3's, but many unboxed, just the body, ex rental from £999 to about £1599. None were pristine. I was further disappointed when it said in the secondhand displays 20% off marked ticket prices... great... only to find that they were not doing that at all. I think they were open to a bit of bartering if you were paying decent money but not much.

Apparently due to continue for a week or two until mainly all sold.

Good feedback BlackCloud - thanks. I did think about making a round trip and fit in a visit to some friends en-route - glad I didn't now.

Thanks for the feedback, like others I'm glad I didn't take the trip out there today to have a look, I had a feeling their "big closing down sale" would probably amount to nothing.

i have just come from there also, wasnt going to go but was driving past london road so stopped. absolute rubbish it was.

At least you guys made it to the right city.

Yeah i went to my local jacobs in newcastle this morning, and wondered why it wasnt opening... Oops!

Bristol Jacobs shop shut the other week and stock, counters etc now cleared out.

Popped in again to the Leicester branch... heart jumped when I thought I may pick up a Panasonic FT4 for a family member about to go travelling... "£329... less 20%" No need to do the maths, still cheaper by far on the internet... Bit suprised tbh...
