I don't think any settings will help you get bright sunlight and shadow correctly exposed together, save for bracketing and firing off three exposures at +/-2 stops then merging in software later.
Did you shoot in RAW? If you did it might be worth making two copies of the shot (one with background exposed, one with foreground exposed) then sticking them in your software and erasing half of one shot carefully to get the exposure right.
Might not work, which is a shame, as I like the different interactions of the people and it's difficult to see what's going on in the background.
Ian.
Ian, thanks for the suggestion just a tad beyond me at the moment thanks. Only up to basic PP but may see what I can do at some stage.
Thanks. Was vetter than I expected s=even though I was grasping at straws to get a shot in the first placeThat's a tough one to shoot as Ian said. I can't add any more to his suggestions. But it's a good shot for the theme
Nice job, I'd have failed miserably and one or other halves would have been unrecognisable.![]()

What a fun shot - I love all the different expressions. The man on the far right doesn't look very impressed!
Must have been supporting the opposition, South Cumbria to Oldham is a fair trek to get beat
ThanksHi Jackie,
Just been looking through your thread - really like your black and white 'people' shots. The 'Rugby Match' reminds me of when I used to go with my dad to watch the local football team - great photo!
The good thing about the 52, is that is pushes you to take different shots. I haven't been brave enough to try this type of photography yet. Well done.
