Hi all,
I've enjoyed photography for a number of years now, although I've only recently moved to digital. Now I was just wondering about the preferences of other photographers - whether amateur or professional. What I mean by preferences is do you like to specilise in one type of photography e.g portraiture, motor sports, landscapes etc or do you like to put your hand to anything, as long as you get to use your camera?

I fall into the second group :)
 
Hmm..interesting question. I think I fall into the second category (even though my camera has become somewhat redundant at present). Having just completed the first year of a college course, I preferred shooting landscapes over anything else. I found studio work rather tedious.
 
Well you know what they say...Variety is the spice of life!:thumbs:
 
I try lots of things. Maybe in 5 - 10 years I'll know exactly what I want to do but for now I'm happy trying anything I can. I'm a professional photographer. Unless of course the job sounds tediously boring :)
 
I try to mix and match what I do, haven't found anything I am anywhere near a specialist in. Just like getting out on shooting with my camera :D
 
Animals or sports pics for me normally although I actually really enjoyed street photography which I didn't think I would (Landscapes are ok but I'm hopeless at them :lol:)
I have quite a dark & abstract style normally so it's great fun challenging myself to go for more "normal" shots & hold back a bit - think that because of this I fit into the 2nd category.
 
Im a relatively new amateur, but with aspirations of taking it to a semi-pro level. I like to shoot most things(Although certain subjects, ie some sports don't do much for me), and want to expand my portfolio even further. I do however really enjoy, and thusly spend most of my time doing insect macro photography. The great thing with this is that I only have to go into my back garden or in the nearby fields to start snapping away. My other main love in Photography is landscapes.

I mainly shoot airshows in the summer, and band photo's the rest of the year.
Would love to get into fashion photography cos im bit of a people person.

Very much a jack of all trades for me in that i like to do a bit of everything, although saying that people and sports are my main areas of preference

Seriously though, just about anything with wings will do me. And I dabble in other stuff too but for instance - I won't take a landscape shot unless it's really stunning. Flowers sometimes - if the light is good. I guess I just get more shots that I like from birding, so that's what I keep doing.
 
Prety much anything for me, but I do like my birds.
Landscapes are the only thing I am not really intrested in.
 
i like portraits kids mostly informal shots

also i do enjoy weddings once the sun is certain

just started on flowers but only after joining this forum i even buy them now to take pics!!!!!!

would like to do insects but never seem to find any

but i bet messiah k sits in the rain for hours to get a shot and damn good shots he gets too
 
I think that I am a jack of all trades. I don't think there is anything that I wouldn't try, except possibly sport. That doesn't interest me at all. My pictures are mainly abstract, but subject wise - it could be anything.
 
i fall in that "jack of all trades, master of none"
or:
shot millions of everything one or two might be in focous and worth keeping,
and my only chance of a decent wildlife shot is to throw the camera at the
subject, stun it, take it to the office, stick under photocopier, release.
 
Well, most of my posts have been flowers, but I'll take pics of anything, would really love to be able to photograph cars properly and landscapes. But I'm happy snapping at anything not that it always works - but hey you never know unless you try!!:thumbs:
