.....a Wacom Graphics Tablet. I ordered PagePlus 11 for work (you can edit pdf files) and it came bundled with the tablet. It is amazing - as an alternative to using the mouse, generally, and for doing freehand processing like brushwork and lasso.

Never having used one I always thought they were a gimmick but it truly is an excellent alternative. I've only just had five minutes with it and I can certainly see the potential. I wont recommend it just yet, until after some more extensive testing but so far it looks very good.

I bought a 2nd hand graphire 2 a while ago, certainly very flexible but takes a bit of getting used to. Great for making selections though :)

Ooh yes you'll have to let us know how you get on as I'm thinking of getting a graphics tablet myself. The latest Digital Camera magazine has a tutorial for a lovely watercolour effect and they reckon a graphics tablet is cool for this sort of thing.

Always been curious about what these are like, most people who use them seem to swear they are the only way to go so I guess they really do work well, prices still a bit much for someone with my level of artistic flare;)

I've got one I've had for years and I rarely use it. They're not a replacement for a mouse, but they are handy for some things, like painting/ smear type operations. I've been using a mouse so long now, I don't find the need for a tablet. For things like drawing masks around complicated shapes, the mouse is a far more stable platform, especially in 'point to point' mode.

I'm not saying don't get one, just don't spend a fortune in the mistaken belief that it will entirely replace your mouse. :)

I totally agree with that CT and I would never abandon the mouse but having used it a bit more, it's very handy to perform mouse functions when I'm in the middle of say, erasing. I will certainly have a use for it but not as a mouse substitute.

I've a WACOM 3 tablet, which is very impressive, but I've yet to get used to the pressure sensitivity on the brushes.

I was given a new given a graphics tablet by the boyfriend's mum two weeks ago. I've got as far as taking it out of the box....

A few days on and a quick line to say I am pleased with the tablet. It certainly doesn't take the place of the mouse but is an excellent addition to it. In CS2 there are many functions which it is ideal for and I don't have to put it down to use the mouse. In fact, for me, it's a blessing - although I am right handed I use a mouse in my left hand therefore the tablet pen can be in my right hand making interaction between the two simple.

Anyway to sum up - it's not the best thing since sliced bread but it sits at the side of my keyboard and if I need it, it's there. I know mine is a cheapie at about £40 and, although mine is a freebie, I would pay that for one. However I would not pay the hundreds that some cost - I just wouldn't get the use out of it. HTH.

ps Minimeeze - if it's not cost you anything at least give it a try.

Of course the real price is that Serif will hound you forever more! :)

Oh they do that already....but I wanted Pageplus 11 and if you are firm enough they'll go away, but I know what you mean ;)
