Well after many years wanting a DSLR I've finally bit the bullet and bought one.

I got myself a Canon SX3 superzoom (12x but that was massive at the time) about 6 years ago having always quite liked taking pictures. Was a decent camera and I have some lovely pictures with it, particularly from our Safari honeymoon. It had pretty good manual control but all the time I owned it, I really wanted an SLR.

After getting a bit of a bonus at work last month and seeing the Nikon D3100 for only £265 I thought, well no time like the present.

So I'm now a very proud owner of my first DSLR, and feel like a bit of a sponge, wanting to soak up as much knowlege as I can.

This place looks like a really good friendly forum and there seems some excellent advice floating around, so expect to see me popping up with daft questions and with pictures for critique.

Hi Jon,

Welcome to TP.

No such thing as a daft question, just questions for things you don't know.

Welcome to TP. Eat, sleep and talk photography from now on :)

@Pete, you haven't heard any of my questions yet :)

@Wardies, That's been pretty much the pattern for the last week. I think the missus is already starting to wonder if the new camera was a good idea! I think if I say "ooooh look at this", having learned something cool, one more time I might find out what 18-55 and a shallow DOF tastes like :)

Waking up at 2am thinking about lenses ? Or is that just me. Lol
