In the past whenever I have typed in Greenlees Photography to Google I've come up at the top of the first page, I've just tried it again and I'm nowhere to be found! :shake:

Any ideas as to what might have happened?

http://www.greenlees-equine.com/ - shows up at the bottom of the first page for me. Guess the others now above you might have been google pimping, but that does seem like a big drop for an exact name match.

EDIT - just noticed my JL Productions is top now - even though I still have no website as such :| good old random Google!

There's an "SEO Expert" somewhere on here, I'm sure he could help you out with your page rank, he seemed very keen on inflicting his knowledge on everyone else! ;):D

As far as I can tell, Google rates your site far higher if you've made a lot of recent changes. Also, if you link to your site from fourms, if you've been doing a lot of posting recently your rating might go up. Other than that, other sites are also obviously active and their activity may help boost their ratings above yours.

Have you the google toolbar? If so, check your page rank (requires the advanced toolbar).

Google could have done a reshuffle...

Gary.

Thanks gary, just tried that and 0/10. :shake:

Is the flash content new? Search engines don't like flash...

........but that does seem like a big drop for an exact name match.

The flash content has been there for about 7/8 months since the site went live. It was only about 10 days - 2weeks ago that I was at the top of the first page, I've just been through about the first five pages without any joy. Maybe I've been blacklisted. :D

You ARE still No1 on Yahoo and MSN if that's any consolation....

I don't understand Google at all to be honest, the other search engines seem much more friendly to webmasters.

Cheers,

Well one thing you could try is submitting a map of your site to google if you haven't done that already.

I've just googled that term and my is now ready to explode but thanks anyway. :)

Switching on the PC is about the limit of my skills.

0/10 - is it white or grey, the bar? Not good either way, I believe white means you have most likely been penalised and grey means you are not listed at all.

This info might be innacurate and / or out of date, definately read it in several places before.

Gary.

It's white and I have no idea why I might have been penalised.

I have just noticed... that your site's in Flash.
Google doesn't index those YET (they've made a deal with Adobe that should enable them to index Flash sites recently), so for some time, it seems you're Google-screwed :p

It's been Flash for some time now, this is a very recent development.

Yeah it does happen from time to time for no apparent reason, I think Google's having an off day or something ...interestingly I found you on the bottom of the first page and yet many of of the sites before you are really poor SEO wise, and I mean bad. Almost like the old days when google didn't have such a sofisticated algorithum for the search engine. .... The results are just like the old engine too, good and bad mixed in,maybe they are using the old one for us today:shrug: .... I get the feeling you'll be back up near the top in 24 hours or so.

Don't hold me too it mind. :D ;)

I don't like flash ~ sorry.

If you have to have flash, you should always have a HTML version of your website too.

I have a few ideas Colin, all of them are nonsense off course;):

1. You are spelling your name wrong
2. Someone at Google has seen your pictures
3. Someone at Google is a relative of these people.
4. There is a conspiracy within the government to shut you up. You know WAY too much!

Was going to come up with some sensible suggestions but I can only recommend this

Hi Colin

Your post got me searching and as usual I got a tad distracted. I have discovered that you can upload a site map and submit this to Google so they can find pages that they might not find during general searches. Information on this is in the Google Webmaster Tools section of your Google Account (if you have one).

I do not know if it will help but I have just managed to create and upload one - the language on how to do it is actually in simple English (or English simple enough for me to understand :) ). Now to wait a few hours and see if I have more pages indexed than I have at present.

Nice Chris321.

The person at the top has a pr2 and you have a pr0, which means he has more backlinks to his site then you which might be the course. Google loves backlinks from relative sites, the more backlinks from relative sites the higher you will climb in the search engine rank positions.

I belive with a little work the keyword you wish to be top for shouldn't involve to much work.

It took me two attempts to get it to accept mine, the first had Errors but the second seems to have been accepted and is waiting to be indexed.

If I can do this then I think anyone can, I generally look at web stuff and don't understand a word, this was explained quite well and relatively simple :bonk:

If you are listing with google make sure you have some good meta data, and as said not a flash site as the google bot has problems trawling anything other than text in the header and body of a site.

Also re-submit and see if your sites hosting company has webstat, im with 34sp who host my site and I have a plesk admin panel and can set up a webstat folder and I can login from my browser and have a look at my hits an visits, bear in mind though that stats for google bots are only useful when you have visits as hits are pretty useless.
