Yep, theyve finally done it. Apple have got me confused. They've made the process way too confusing.

I've tried reading a which does what guide and I'm still confused.
I've signed up a @me address to use iCloud which I won't ever use, so I've disabled the email part of it (and forwarded it to my primary mail just incase).

My iPad is Wifi only (non 4g), mobile/outandabout use will be tethered anyway so not important to sync anything over that.

I want the following to automatically sync instantly between my iMac and iPad

Email (Accounts and mails)
Calendars / Reminders
Notes
Contacts
Books
Apps

The following to download onto my iPad on request

Movies
Photos
Music
Podcasts
TV Shows
Tones

I'd like the following to back up onto iCloud from both my iMac and iPad

Email (Accounts and mails)
Calendars
Contacts
Docs and Data
Reminders
Notes

Help!

do you have icloud turned on in itunes on mac?

I don't let anything back up to icloud, just use it to sync my mac, iphone and ipad together.

I use wifi sync for what you're wanting to do. The only downside is that while you're away your data won't back up, which it would with iCloud.
