Recently my iPhone 5 is not recognised by iTunes (software up to date in both).
The phone is recognised by the Win 10 laptop and I can find it and navigate to photos from within Win 10, however iTunes doesn't see it.
Have done a hard reset and re-boot of the phone and restarted the laptop but to no avail.
iTunes does see my iPads, using the same lead and USB port.
Any ideas please?

As mentioned in the other thread about this. There is no need to connect an iPhone to a computer. Everything syncs over via the cloud.

I don't use iCloud hence the need to connect to iTunes :)

Well there is your problem then. You are choosing to make life difficult for yourself.

No that isn't the problem, the connection is the problem ... unless you are saying that Apple has removed iTunes connection facility.

You forgot your obligatory :)

Use of the cloud is free unless you want more than 5gb of storage. Your phone will back up automatically when it is charged. The types of files you choose will automatically transfer to the phone without you having to do anything. There is literally no need to connect the phone to a computer.

iTunes still works, I still back up to iTunes fairly regularly.

Have you considered uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes?

My iPhone is 64GB of which approx 45GB is used, I simply don't want to add more to Apple's coffers when it shouldn't be necessary. :)

Obviously there is something wrong there with your connection but it was also obvious from the other thread that most people here probably don't use iTunes any more so probably can't help.
You don't say what you want to achieve by connecting by cable -- maybe it would be achievable via iCloud.
(Interesting that there is more of your post in the quote here than in the original!!!!)

Yep done that.
When laptop powered up afterwards I got the 'beep' and then the 'Do you want to trust this device' box (clicked 'yes') but now the phone doesn't even show in Explorer :(
USB for Apple Mobile shows ok in Device Manager.

It probably is achievable via iCloud, I just don't want to use or pay for iCloud ... I don't understand your last bit.

Seriously, the price of doing what you want to do, in a much much easier way, is 79p month for 50gb, which is easily enough for you. Don't forget your iOS is a part of the memory showing as used on your phone.

This is OT but No I don't understand it either now, the second half after the ellipsis wasn't showing on my display when I replied -- I double checked to make sure. But now it is showing :-( it seems the gremlin in your phone/computer has transferred itself over the Internet and infested my iPad.

Have a read through their info page and see if there's anything you haven't tried.

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204095

You are a star Dave!

Although I had been to that page twice before and almost discounted your suggestion I went there again to triple-check and there was something I had missed ... services.msc to Apple Mobile Services (or similar) and Right Click - Stop then Restart Service and reboot the laptop and I have my iTunes connection back.

Indeed. Can't see how trying to use an actual intended function of the software is being difficult personally.

Personally I found iCloud to be very unreliable for photo sync anyway and moved to OneDrive.

I've got a bit of overkill there, I've got iCloud, OneDrive and DropBox all set up to sync, I even pay for 50GB iCloud but it's essentially a photo sync and notes, scans etc. I also still back up the iPhone using iTunes as it has always worked better and I can't be 'rsed to enter all my passwords after restoring which only an iTunes back up will do, so have never made use of the iCloud backups.

It's been literally years since I connected my devices to my MacBook. I find the syncing and automatic back ups work perfectly.

Slightly off-topic, but I stopped using iCloud as I got fed up with the duplicated and triplicated contact list between my phone and pc, and also the iCloud way of splitting out all the email addresses as separate contacts.

If only iCloud could just leave my contact list alone and not mix it up, I would prefer that to a connection to iTunes!

I've never had that issue either.

Lucky you! If anyone has a solution I would appreciate the help, thanks.

It may be that you have more than one "account" selected in your settings. If you have iCloud and outlook (for example) selected, then you'll see duplicates if you have the same contact in both accounts when looking at all contacts.

Where are these settings, in iCloud? If so do I use the Outlook or iCloud account? Will maybe try again if I have confidence I can avoid the stupid duplicate issue.

Have a look in the iOS settings of the device you use.

In iOS settings/contacts/accounts you can turn off synch for some or all accounts individually. I have an iCloud account and 5 gmail accounts but have turned off shchi get for all the gmail accounts and don't have any trouble with duplications etc. My contacts synch to iPhone iPad & Mac faultlessly.

Thanks for your help everyone, I am now successfully using icloud to sync emails and contacts between ipad, iPhone and pc, and it all works!!

I did have a traumatic time with several versions of all the contacts, but after a couple of hours deleting duplicates on the laptop (the easiest option), all three devices now have the same contacts, and wherever I add or delete a contact is mirrored on the other devices.

Success, thanks again.
