Just a qiuikie guys,

I'm desperate to free-up some space on my hard drive and am thinking of removing loads of albums from my itunes file.

Is this possible and will it free up much space

If you don't want the albums you can ditch them but you could invest in a smallish portable HDD and move the itunes library to it ovbviously depends on the size of the library but I have a 32gb iTouch with about 600 to 700 albums on stored on a 120gb HDD as a back up. Just remember to plug the HDD when you open iTunes. I have seen 160gb portable HDDDs for less than £40 in the supermarkets so have a look online and use Quidco and you should pick up a bargain.

Genius!! Why on earth I didn't think of that I'll never know!!

I have a 1TB portable HDD for all my photos but can easily add itunes to it!! :)

Is it just a case of going into the "my programs" files and copying and pasting the itunes files? Sorry to sound like a thicko but I'm not the world's most advanced PC user :$

Yes all I did was C+P the Folder
C;//User/Music
Then in this folder there will be one called iTunes

Copy ALL of the folder, including all the playlists, etc, etc.
Once it has copied across (delete the original folder)
Open up your new folder on your hard drive, open up the library file and viola :D

Edit: see above
:)

i'm pretty sure you will need to tell it-tunes where your music is now stored though: (after moving media to new location)

Top toolbar:
>Edit
>preferences
>Advanced (tab)
Itunes media location: set this to your new hard drive location

(i dont know if next bit is necesary but this is what i did to make sure i din't end up with repeated media in my library)

delete all your current library media from original file location and then:

>file
>add folder to library
> select all itunes media from new location

this process will also ensure all new ripped cds or downloads are stored on your external drive.

Well - have followed all the instructions guys. And seem to have lost all my albums :(

Oh well.

I moved my music library to an external hard drive.

Once you've moved the music to the new drive, delete the itunes library (default in my music I think) and then plug the ipod in to the pc and add files as if it was the first time.
