its official! alpha 290 and 390!

I have an a900 and the jpegs direct from the camera are noisy at 1600 and above though better than the equivalent film would be.

Processing the RAW files through DXO drastically improves the situation however, it is mind boggling what it can do! Plus there is the added benefit of dedicated lens modules that correct the inherent defects in many of the popular lenses. It really is a superb combination.

DXO just released a module for the 20mm/2.8 too!

well, I can vouch for sony (and many other can too!). The sensor in Nikon's are absolutely amazing! Dunno why Canon's are soo bad considering they make them themselves.. Thing is, which sony is it that has the same amazing sensor as D5k, D90, D300S? If sony get a great AF system together, they'll be a winner IMO. :)

I hope Sony develops their camera style. like making cameras for portrait, wedding, fashion, landscape photographers as Nikon is clearly a sports, etc brand (apart from D3x) . a850,a900 proves me right I think. Can't wait to get one, it's just that there is always something else I need to buy.

the minolta colours from there lenses would always make me think of portraiture and while the ISO noise problem is still there, it doesnt seem to affect portraiture, thats what we need!
