It's N DAY!

lol I'm used to a 1Ds with a 70-200 2.8IS so I think I'll manage Tim, although my wrists will still be bu**ered at the end of the day :)

Richard, you will be more than welcome to have a try out side by side. My local Vicar is a really nice chap and Lyme Park is not far away either so anytime you want to try it, just shout!

That's great Ali - Thanks  - I have heard that the Nikon has a better Auto focusing system over the Canon!

Funnily enough I find back-ache the biggest problem with very heavy glass, after years of heavy use my wrists are fine :naughty::naughty::naughty:

Not really an issue with the odd few shots during the day, but at the speeches I'm often shooting for a long time with the 70-200, so I now use a monopod for that attached to the lens to allow quick 90 degree switches - back problem solved :)

I was lucky that Simon TALM let me try my 5D against the D700 in just those conditions and it was declared a no contest!

The AF system in the D700 is a 51 point 3D tracking one very similar to the one one I have in the 1Ds and if you have not used one you would not necessarily notice the lack of a decent AF in the 5D and 5DII. The 51 point uses all sort of multi layer algorithms that make my head hurt but they do work in near darkness. Compare the 11 point AF "hunting mechanism" in the 5D's and the difference is astonishing. I think it was good old Uncle Ken Rockwell who said that it does not matter how many pixels you have if they are all out of focus. There is a small matter of truth in there somewhere!

You may not notice quite such a difference between the 5DII because of the higher ISO but it would certainly be an interesting time shooting them both together. It's also important to recognise that the times where we really need the cutting edge stuff that we demand are actually few and far between. A 5D will happily do 90+% of what I shoot. But it is so frustrating when you miss a key piece of emotion during a wedding because your camera misfocussed. And that's the one shot you will remember!

I'm half tempted to do the same in the church but I'm worried I'd forget and change from portrait to landscape a bit quick and have the Vicars eye out! :nono:

Oh don't worry Chris, it's a c*** lens and leaves lumps of metal behind thereby ruining your camera.

There, is that better? :)

Dipstick !!!

If the monopod is connected to the LENS collar, then the camera revolves around that axis meaning the monopod doesn't move - hence no Vicars suffer or even notice !!!

:D

But then I forget, until now (almost) you've only used Canon stuff so may not realise how useful this is :D

lol Yes I know, my 70-200 IS had one of them collar things. Came in handy for swinging it about :)

ONE MORE SLEEP :D

Spent this evening photographing the Canon gear but the 1Ds is still at Canon being serviced so I need to wait till I get it back so I can use the 5D and 1Ds to take pics of each other. I could get quite emotional about them, we have done a lot together.:sulk:

and have fun of course :)

Look, I was awake at 5am!

What are you doing up so early? :)

Have you been up all night staring at the screen? :cuckoo:

They may not be quick but when it happens it's all good

Wahey! Ali it is like Christmas!

Can't wait to hear your initial review!

Was thinking about the lens turning wrong way issue -maybe when changing lenses you should do it in hand stand?

Picking up my D700 today, delivered to my parents house (retired, in all day) yesterday at 16.00.

Too late to collect after promising the the GF a meal out last night. I don't think I would have been too popuilar if I had brought it with me to the restaurant  Collecting tonight,:banana::banana:

Still got another four days to wait until the 14-24 arrives, :dummy: But still got the Sigma 50mm 1.4 to play with until then ... Yay :runaway::runaway::runaway:!!!

I've had quite enough of a rush of blood to the head lately thanks Matt! lol

Excellent Yv! I'll be interested to see what you think of the handling and the IQ. Going to be an interesting weekend :)

Review time Simon! :)

I will be out at West Witterings tomorrow at Sunrise, I have a new dive computer to collect from a shop there for an upcoming trip to Tobago and thought I would take advantage of the oppurtunity to be near a nice beach.

Weather permitting I will then be going to Dorset in the afternoon with Donutboy of this here parish to catch the sunset at Kimmeridge.

Failing the afternoon excursion there is always Sunday when I plan on having a walkabout somewhere.

She has gone a username to live up to Bob!

Seriously Ali, Yv, could you do me a favour and tell me it is awful and rubbish please? :cuckoo:

Its awful, absolutely dreadful, gawd knows why we spent to much money on that pile of crap!

will that do? :whistling:

oh, and dont go looking at any threads that appear thi weekend started by her, by him, or by me :p

You know those crazy American's love the "unboxing" pictures. I think you should do some for us too!! It'd give you a chance to use one of the cams too.

lol I might just do that too!

But it will have to be Monday when the rest of it catches up :)

NORTY NORTY Yv and Ali!

To quell my desire to spank the credit card on a switchover I have just ordered this.

Now I am a NORTY one too!

I cant wait!!

Has all your gear arrived yet Mrs Yv?

lol @ Matt, enjoy :)

Mine has just this minute arrived at home. My other half has been emailing me pics from his Blackberry! All of a sudden I have come over all funny and may have to go home!

(nah I'll just dive through the door and dinner tonight is a curry from our lovely local curry house because the chances of me cooking tonight are nil!)

 Good Plan on the curry Ali! Although make sure it is a goodun and that you are still in action tomorrow to go out and play with all the new kit!

Tracking says it doesnt know yet, but as I am working from home today [typically] I cannot say for sure. I will be driving down to Kentish town like a loon later this evening though :D Like Ali...cooking will NOT be happening in this house this evening....well, not unless Yves Geza would like to learn the whereabouts of the kitchen and what happens in there
