As I'm again 2 weeks behind (almost) and no sign of getting this weeks done as lots going on, I have decided to play a wildcard!
This means I can use any photo I have taken since beginning the 52 weeks challenge, which has never been submitted in any of the weeks so far.

Obviously this means there is no theme, just some random photos I took for submission which never made it for one reason or another. However they should still be good photos in their own right.

WEEK 14 - WILDCARD
4501094428_0d013dcf44.jpg

Life moves at such a fast pace, if you dont stop and look around you just might miss it ;)
With that in mind my topic for this week was SPRING.

My flight back to UK is now in 10 days so I have more time than initially thought, so I could take a breath. Which also meant going and taking some photos - great way to relax

So off I went to see what Spring had to offer, sadly where I live in Spain there isnt much in terms of wildlife or flowers - sure there are some things, but not alot.

I also watched as the sun went down and tried to capture the moments as it did.

The problem I have coming up is my place in the UK doesnt have internet, so I need to find a way to access the net, or sadly you wont see more photos! Im sure I will find a way, just may mean uploading 2 weeks at a time, but we shall see ;)

anyway on with the shots I took:

The chosen one - WEEK 15 - SPRING
4510409184_b03bec94d7.jpg

So many I've missed here, Dade. your chosen headshot is a wonderful expression and composition. I like your conversion too, but feel it's lost a little light to the eyes.

Your chosen lunchtime shot works GREAT. Really inventive and the pink hue is a winner. What was your set-up?

I can see why you xhose your daughter for the wildcard. She is cute - especially in that hat. Maybe a little fill on her face would help though?

A couple of very good shots there Dade... the shot of your daughter is very good.

Some lovely shots here - too many to comment on in details but my favourites are the great outdoors and wildcard.

Phil

oh wow, that shot of your daughter is fantastic.. she is adorable. love her hat :)

like the chosen shots for lunchtime and spring.. tough choices as so many great ones to choose from, do like that dandelion head too..

I managed to squeeze in week 16 before I left - Im not sure if im behind or back on track just now?!

Anyway the subject this week was SMALL CREATURES - at this point I havent picked a fav as I am undecided and the misses has other choices so I need your help - let me know here or better on my flickr page as to which shot you prefer

some others are available on flickr - so its up to you this week, which one gets the top spot?!

I seem to have missed a few weeks Dade, but I really hope that you're back online soon. This is one of the 52s that I always look forward to looking at.

Wildcard week : I love the chosen shot. It has a dreamy, vintage feel which makes it different to the usual portraits.
And your daughter is indeed extremely cute!

I also really like the B&W corks from this week.
The way that the cork at the end of the row is leaning in, as if peering around the others just makes it for me.

Spring : Simply beautiful.
They're all good shots (as if I'd expect anything other than that from you) but the final choice is just stunning.
The soft light coming through the blossom gives it a beautiful feel.

Small Creatures :  Really, really tough choice this week.
I've spent a long time looking and I think I have to go for the squirrel shots over the birds.
Although the bird shots are excellent, I'm finding that I'm losing their eyes with the combination of the lighting and their dark heads.

I'm torn on the squirrel shots though. I can't decide between the first head shot that you posted here and the full body shot on the post that's on your Flickr.

thank you Sarah your feedback in always top notch ;)
Yeah the Squirrel close up head shot pipped it in the end, with more views over the others (but only just).

As for the corks shot, you really do have an eye for detail and imagination ;)

(from what I saw of your wonderful shots you too have a bit of a dilemma this week!)

Cheers Nick.
Well due to the Volcano it appears I have a little more time than I thought, dont know yet when I shall be able to fly, not long I hope - lots to do back in UK!

anyway on with the shots - The week was Up Close, so lots of macro and close up shots, whilst also trying to find interesting and different subjects.
The weather here at the moment is awful - lots of flash storms and hail, so limited on what I am able to capture outdoors.

As someone said recently I should really be protecting my images, so now I have added a watermark to them. I have also posted them here larger than normal as some people would like to see the details (you may of course go to my FLICKr, but I have removed the option to see original size, for the same reason as adding watermarks)

Hope you like them ;)

The winner - WEEK 17 - UP CLOSE
4531197116_ce1244e752.jpg

Nice set again, Dade. I really like the rope, personally, out of these.

Dean: The rope has very interesting details and a nice mottled background, the flower has nice detail in the stem heads and the keyhole is very unique looking.
It was a tough call for me, I think the colour won me over in the end ;)

I can see that. If there was a little beetle on one of the blades then it'd have been no contest. :D

A good set Dade, and it's close... personally I prefer the lock ;)... I think you're gonna get a few of this sort of thing this week. Of course, if, as Dean said, there was a beetle or some such ....

Some really good strong images in this 52. Will try and keep up over the next few weeks...

Ian.

Cheers for the feedback, encouraging ;)

Youre right about an item of interest too, bug / drop of water a little something. Maybe next time - cheers again :)

You're absolutely right - there's something special about each of those.
But I'm with John on this one, my personal favourite is the lock. I have a thing for dark, mysterious images and this shot has tons of both

I also really like contrast in textures between the wood and the metal lock plate.

Youre right about an item of interest too, bug / drop of water a little something.

I'd go along with that.
What I'd really like to see is a Ladybird. I think a red focal point amongst all that green would be fantastic . . . of course, that's not the type of thing you can just conjure up out of nowhere ;)

p.s. Hope your flight gets sorted soon. It's looking promising at the moment.

The problem with there being so many 52ers this year, is that I never seem to get round to commenting on everybody's. It's nothing personal, just not having enough time. I've popped into your thread several time, but somehow never commented, and the longer you don't comment the longer it takes to post a detailed catch up. :bang:

So, given that your life seems to be moving into a new phase with coming back to the UK, it seems a good time to catch up briefly and I'll try and comment properly every week once you're back on t'internet!

There's so much variety and excellence in this thread, I'm not even going to try and choose a favourite - except a special mention for Post 83, your little daughter. She's very cute, but the pose, expression and porcessing are fantastic, and I love it.:clap::clap:

Wekk 17: Up Close - It's very hard to chose here. The rope caught my eye because of the amazing detail and tact sharpness of it. But the winner (the grass) held my attention longer and therefore gets my vote. :D

The lock also appeals because of the texture in the old wood and the interesting shape of the keyhole. :)

Jean

Sarah: This week was not easy to choose, maybe its me or perhaps its because the subject are so varied each has its own appeal. When I take my shots for the week I find one, love it - then find another opportunity for a shoot and love that more etc. Obviously then in back at home time has passed and ones I thought were nice and interesting pale against others and some really spring to life when processed a little more :-S
perhaps thats the beauty of photography ;)

Jean: No worries, there are SO many 52's I lose track myself and end up looking at lots of them, some I comment some I dont, strangley enough I seem to comment in my head, then when I revisit them and see no comment I could swear i did.. ..something I must watch out for, lol.
But thanks for the comments - being new at this really does inspire me that I am on the right track and am making worthwhile images.
So MANY thanks ;)

A real varied set there Dade.

All are good in their own right but I think I am edging towards the lock. The texture is superb, well lit and a very unusual lock.

Is the hinge on the same door as the lock? If so, it must make an interesting subject in itself.

Andy

Andy: yeah the door, lock and hinge were all from the same church door, but the door wasnt as interesting as the furnishings so I focussed on the details instead.

Dade,

I seem to have missed your thread for several weeks. Sorry. I like the Great outdoors, your daughter and lunchtime, the best. Although they are a great set of photos.

This week, it is very hard to choose, but I think I would also have chosen the grass image. I really like it. So simple. But, I would agree that a bug would have turned it into something extra special.

I think I would have preferred the flower in colour rather than B/W.

Hope you manage to get back to the UK okay.

Jenny

A great set this week and I find it quite difficult to pick a favourite. I think though in the end I like the first one best - such interesting shapes, colours and textures.

Due to the aforementioned Volcanic action I managed to squeeze in an extra week in Spain so I took advantage and did 2 weeks for the price of one.
Spain is famous for many things not least of all are the buildings. Whilst I didnt have enough time to visit all the great buildings Spain does have I chose a select few with various looks and details for you to enjoy.

I also shot quite a few sculptures that Spain has in abundance too; this is Week 19.
Again I went for what Spain is typical for and the things that most encapsulated that.

This will put me a week ahead so hopefully when I return to the UK on WEDNESDAY!!! It will also give me some extra time to sort out net connections etc ;)

Its difficult to choose a favourite in your set of images Dade, they are all fantastic :).
You have an eye for detail, the colours in the images are all so rich.
This set would not look out of place in a coffee table magazine. All round great effort Dade. Keep 'em coming. Iain

Hope you get back OK. My boss was stuck in Spain for an extra couple of weeks too. Fortunately she's Spanish and was staying with family so it wasn't too bad :)

Buildings: I like the first of your runners up. Nice sense of isolation and very English in a way. You wouldn't believe you were in a foreign country. Your final choice looks a bit too HDR for my tastes. Nice converging lines and a lovely sky, but the colours look a bit wrong. That is just my humble opinion though!!

Sculpture: I think you've chosen the right image as your winner. It works really well as a silhouette, but I would like to see a bit more detail in the bull's head. Again, that could be my laptop screen not helping there though.

Some quality photography in this thread. Enjoying it muchly.

No worries, there are SO many 52's I lose track myself and end up looking at lots of them, some I comment some I dont, strangley enough I seem to comment in my head, then when I revisit them and see no comment I could swear i did.. ..something I must watch out for, lol.
You're not alone in this :)

Cheers Ian, comments always welcome ;)
Buildings, HDR look without overdoing was what I was aiming for, I really liked the colour on the building and wanted to make this the focus, so (personally) Im happy with it, but point taken.

Sculpture, sadly I didnt pick up all the detail, not that there was that much anyway, but the aim here was the contrast as you rightly picked up on.

Glad you're liking them - as for the UK, I fly out tomorrow (finally)

OK folks, I may be offline for a while, if you dont hear from me, good luck with your 52's.
Please feel free to leave comments on mine and rest assured, even if they are not posted they are still being done, and once I have a connection I will upload them

All the best for now
Dade :)

I think I'm gonna agree with Iain on the buildings... they are all good, but the first is my fave. I get what you were aiming for in the chosing shot and it's come through, but it seems a little unnatural to me...

Sculptures... love the light and colour of the first one... I can see why you chose the bull.. they are all good.

I hope you're journey to the UK went well

:plusone:

Sorry for not being more original but John has said everything I want to!

OK back in UK and now have net, so I will get busy commenting on all the wonderful work you guys have been upto whilst I was away ;0

JOHN: Appreciate the input, its all important, even if I happen to have chosen a different shot, your eyes are teaching me what is god or not about the shots too, so please fel free to express your opinions.
I am more than happy with the sheer fact you like the shots in general ;)

goodness.. I'm ashamed to say I've never been in your thread, so I'm really sorry about that! Firstly, I love how much effort you're putting into each week, taking so many different images :)

The ones which stand out for me the most just flicking through your thread are:
The great outdoors
love is
lunchtime
buildings
(all your chosen shots)

Specifically the great outdoors & love is.. just.. both beautiful images, beautiful compositions and beautiful subjects :)

Louise: thanks for your nice comments and please dont worry I keep stumbling across peoples 52's too, just remember to keep checking in ;)

onto week 20!!!!
I did think i was going to be offline for much longer but luckily I managed to strike a great deal with a UK net provider so im back up and running; and I must say im so happy about that!!! YES, I am addicted to the net, I felt quite isolated without it; sad I know.

The shots I aimed for this time round as well as the Black & White theme were images that made me look twice, something which really captured my attention. I played with shapes and objects I found to be interesting. Things that just demanded a closer look, was my focus I guess.

and the runners up are:

Heh... #1 is superb and just prevents me commenting on any of the other shots.

I'd have that on my wall... And I have no idea why. I just really really like it.

All the other shots just fade next to it. Don't tell me what it is... :)

Brilliant.

Ian.
